Our Transportation Business is currently seeking a Senior Highways Engineer in our civils and structures team in Bristol. The successful candidate will support the delivery of a wide variety of multi-disciplinary highways projects in the South West and the wider UK, including Highways England Regional Investment Programme.

Using your people, technical and delivery skills, you’ll be responsible for delivering a variety of civil and structural design packages for new build highways schemes, renewals schemes, and maintenance and assessment works. Your duties will include the management of both individual design packages and assist in the management of entire projects, managing resources and project finances to ensure our schemes are delivered profitably, to programme, and in accordance with Atkins’ quality assurance systems.

In our Bristol office, our major clients include several Local Authorities across the south and south-west of England, as well as Highways England, Design & Build Contractors and other niche clients. Previous experience of the rail sector would be advantageous but not required. Your project involvement will be tailored by your specific background and skills, but will be a mix of the above as required.

You will have a background in civil engineering design and experience of delivery of a range of multi-disciplinary projects within highway environments. You’ll be familiar with working in large, geographically dispersed multidisciplinary design teams on projects at varying stages of development from feasibility to detailed design.

Qualifications
• BEng / MEng or MSc degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered status and corporate membership of the ICE, IHT or IStructE

The role will be varied, requiring a balance of relevant industry experience, technical ability, people, stakeholder management and project management skills. 


Essential Criteria
• Experience of working with key clients such as, Local Authorities, Highways England, Network Rail, Developers and/or major Contractors
• Ability to contribute to bids and tenders
• Sufficient experience to undertake technical reviews of designs
• Good understanding of relevant design standards (e.g. DMRB, TSRGD, MCHW Eurocodes and those of Highways England and Manual for Streets)
• Ability to develop and agree scopes and manage the internal technical supply chain, including budgets, programme and quality of deliverables, delivering within set time frame
• Good project management skills, commercial awareness, financial control and ability to deliver across a range of contract types. This will include an ability to manage stakeholders, e.g. specialist suppliers, independent checkers and local authorities
• Sound interpersonal skills and ability to converse with a wide range of Clients and colleagues across a number of engineering disciplines
• Excellent spoken and written English
