Senior Engineer - Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)

Atkins seeks an experienced Senior Engineer - Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Design Build to join our transportation teams in MD/VA/DC areas. In this role, you will be part of an elite team of ITS professionals focusing on North American projects with some opportunity to work internationally, if desired. As with all of our positions, this position is an entrepreneurial role in which you will be able to leverage Atkins more than 3000 rail experts globally to your ultimate success.

An individual who would be required to have experience in engineering and preparation of Signing and Pavement Marking, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and Signal design plans. The ideal candidate would have knowledge of the operations and signing requirements of multi-modal roadway and transit facilities and Express/managed lanes and have Design-Build project experience.


Typical Duties and Responsibilities of this position are:


You would be responsible for interaction as the discipline lead with the client and owner for traffic design development, review of plans and other work product of sub-consultants, preparation of staff hour estimates, change notices, and contract negotiations.

You may be required to complete minor in-house traffic design tasks ranging from the preparation of concept plans to signed and sealed contract documents.

Management of sub-consultants performing assigned tasks within traffic, ITS, signing & striping, and Lighting. Management of scope, schedule, and budget for all assigned tasks.

You will need to be able to review design plans and provide/communicate clear and concise comments from the reviews to other consultants and other agencies.

Position would also be responsible for Request for Information (RFI) requests during construction, as well as, all review and approval of traffic design related shop drawings from the contractor.

Must have the potential to be working full time in the client's office, and must be able to communicate well with others.

Position will require the ability to lead and coordinate meetings as well as work well in a team environment with other consultants in the client's office.

Position does require time management and organizational skills as you will be involved in multiple projects operating on multiple schedules.

You should be comfortable speaking in small/medium sized groups with other engineering consultants and as well as the clients to provide engineering direction to the team.


REQUIREMENTS:


Minimum ten (10) plus years' experience in Signing and Pavement Marking, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and Signal design, but not limited to such, experience within the tolls industry is a plus.

Familiarity with Maryland DOT, SHA, and MTA policies and procedures, Design Standards, and Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

Must have a Bachelors degree and Registered Professional Engineer in Maryland, or the ability to be registered with one (1) year.

Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) not required, but a plus.
