Atkins is one of the world’s most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies. We are looking to recruit a Senior Environmental Consultant - ESIA/ESHIA to join our team in Epsom, Surrey.

You will join a team of over 30 EIA and environmental coordinators located across the country, working to deliver an exciting range of high profile infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas, including oil and gas, water and sanitation and transport projects in Africa and the Middle East.

Clients cover the public and private sectors, including Banks and Governments. We pride ourselves on providing forward thinking practical and pragmatic solutions that deliver lasting value for our clients and their customers, working together with local companies to deliver site specific solutions.

You will work collaboratively with a range of technical specialists on a broad range of projects and will coordinate ESIAs/ESHIAs, the development of Environmental and Social Management Plans for the design and construction phases of projects and Stakeholder Engagement. The successful candidate will have experience of international standards, including the Equator Principles and IFC Performance Standards. You will have worked on fast paced and challenging projects, and have a broad understanding of all the technical specialism required for an ESIA including SIA, RAP and stakeholder engagement. 

You should have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to think of yourself as part of the client’s management team. This means being able to understand client requirements, understand the bigger picture and be innovative in relation to service delivery. This will be combined with an ability to work successfully with design teams to deliver optimal environmental outcomes on projects.

You will be expected to contribute towards achieving the targets of the business with regards to business development, business delivery and work winning. 

You will join a progressive Environment team with a wide range of client interests within the public and private sectors.


Responsibilities
• Coordination and delivery of environmental audits and environmental impact assessments.
• Undertake environment-related desk-based research and fieldwork to collect, analyse and interpret data to determine their validity, quality and significance.
• Review environmental and social regulatory and legislative standards, guidelines and policies.
• Set the scope, coordinate, check and review the work of others in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team on a wide range of development and infrastructure projects.
• Stakeholder engagement, including communicating technical information to relevant audiences in an appropriate form, via reports, workshops, educational events, public hearings.
• Competently undertake own work to an excellent standard, on time and to budget.
• Support and develop more junior staff.
• Ensure compliance with Atkins Business Management Systems and company policies.
• Specification, preparation and coordination of fee proposals for environmental work.

Requirements
• Degree or Masters in an environmental or science subject.
• Chartered with a relevant professional institute.
• Full UK/EEC driving licence.
• Willing to travel internationally. 
• Experience in EBRD countries a benefit.
• Languages other than English would be a benefit, especially Russian.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview
