Our talent and capability within the Nuclear Sector is highly recognised, and being involved in a new generation of UK Nuclear Power Stations means that we are now looking for Senior Estimators within the Industry Sector as part of our Commercial team to support our Clients project teams working on Nuclear New Build programmes.

This position covers projects in the West Region and will involve being based from our network of offices, client offices and sites.

In conjunction with the Estimating Manager, the Senior Estimator will develop an Estimating Team appropriate to the scale and phase of the areas of the project they work in and support. This will include establishing clear roles, responsibilities and accountabilities for each member of the team. Reviewing individual progress against accountabilities on a monthly basis and at formally annual and quarterly reviews and establishing individual training plans and ensuring training and development commitments are carried out in a timely manner so that the team is fully resourced with competent and experienced people.

The Senior Estimator will effectively and efficiently manage the work of the function, in compliance with internal and external mandatory requirements and therefore meet the expectations of all our Client’s key stakeholders. Aligning and planning the work in accordance with the approved project programme and reporting on progress as required. At all times the Senior Estimator will ensure that all Principal Accountabilities for the estimating team are implemented in accordance with our Client’s procedures.

The Senior Estimator will adopt the role of the Intelligent Customer ensuring that all our Client’s stakeholder needs and expectations are met with regard to estimating probity and value. The Senior Estimator will have a key role in managing relationships with the rest of the multi-disciplinary team in which they work as well as all other areas of the project with which their team interfaces. The Senior Estimator will be accountable for establishing effective methods to learn from experience and to mitigate future risks.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the right person with an appropriate background in the Industry sector, which will ideally be in nuclear, petro-chemical, pharmaceutical, infrastructure or manufacturing, to take their career to the next level.


We are looking for Senior Estimators to:

  • Integrate with and provide an estimating role to multi-disciplined project teams, developing best practice with colleagues providing similar roles on other parts of the project.
  • Assist in the development of project resource and execution plans.
  • Develop estimating and benchmarking processes, procedures and capability.
  • Ensure the implementation of the client’s estimating procedures.
  • Review, evaluate, validate and report on existing estimates for projects within a portfolio.
  • Perform and support project and programme reviews.
  • Assist in risk and opportunity exercises and reviews.
  • Support Value Management exercises.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to Estimators and Assistant Estimators under their control.

 

To join us, you will have:

 

  • Minimum of HNC/HND diploma or degree in a cost or engineering related discipline or be qualified by experience.
  • Full membership of the RICS / CICES / IOB / ACostE or equivalent professional body is desirable.
  • Expertise in all aspects of estimating.
  • An analytical bias with the ability to provide solutions to issues.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and engineering drawings of varying complexity.
  • Ability to co-ordinate disparate information into a coherent estimate.
  • Familiarity with recognised methods of measurement.
  • Familiarity with WBS/CBS.
  • Understanding of and experience in a nuclear / oil and gas / petro-chemical / pharmaceutical / infrastructure / manufacturing sector.
  • Skills to act as deputy to the Estimating Manager.
  • Able to both accept and delegate responsibility and influence and lead a team.
  • An ability to advise clients on all aspects of cost estimates and ranges of accuracy.
  • Effective client interface skills and experience with the ability to offer both strategic and project advice.
  • Knowledge of construction management and project management.
  • Numerically confident to manage the day to day costs associated with running projects.
  • Report writing and presentation skills.
  • Good IT skills and the ability to operate Microsoft Office as a minimum.
  • Flexibility to be client office or site based according to the needs of the client.

Additional Information

You may be required to travel regularly as part of the role so a full driving licence and valid passport is required.

You may also be required to undertake a Clients competency assessment panel prior to being placed in role.
