Senior GIS Consultant - Birmingham

The role

The role of Senior GIS Consultant is an exciting and rewarding opportunity for the right person to gain experience working within the High Speed 2 project environment. Reporting to the Information Manager this specific role is part of a high achieving team delivering industry leading innovative geospatial solutions to a large multi-disciplinary project team. The successful candidate will work out of central Birmingham full time. This position would suit someone who has experience of liaising with senior project stakeholders and understands the importance of good quality data for large infrastructure projects.

What we're looking for

Essential
• Either a degree qualification in GIS or a related field and more than five years work experience, or 10 years’ experience using GIS software
• Expert in using ArcGIS 10x and its extensions
• Experience in maintaining a WebGIS (data focused)
• Experience of setting up FME workbenches to automate GIS workflows
• Demonstratable experience of setting up data management practices and principles, including data validation on large infrastructure projects
• Understand the importance of good data management on large infrastructure projects
• Experience of delivering training sessions and promoting the use of GIS
• Track record of working with new technology and producing innovative new Geospatial solutions.
• Experience of working in a high-achieving project team
• Proven experience of delivering to deadlines within pressurised environments 
• Excellent presentation and communication skills in written and spoken English 
• An understanding of how GIS fits within a BIM project environment

Desirable 
• Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary consultancy
• Experience with working and controlling a large number of evolving datasets
• Hands on experience of using CAD derived data within a GIS environment
• Experience of providing information management advice or solutions to multi-disciplinary projects

Responsibilities
• Key Geospatial team member on a large infrastructure project
• Work within a BIM project environment
• Hold GIS training sessions
• Represent the UK Geospatial team and providing GIS solutions to internal Atkins disciplines and external clients
• Key contact for GIS data capture, cartography, analysis and modelling within Atkins
• Explain the benefits of GIS in a multi-disciplinary environment
• Provide GIS support on projects (both internal to Atkins and externally direct with clients) to various disciplines from around Atkins
• Identify and develop business opportunities by providing client focused GIS solutions
• Manage own productivity
