Senior GIS Team Leader

The Atkins Geospatial team are growing fast and looking for a number of staff across all levels of seniority. This role is for 2 GIS Senior Team Leaders who will each manage 3 GIS Team Leaders (who in turn manage 5 staff therefore ultimately responsible for 15 staff). It is the perfect role for a current team leader looking for the next step. It will be challenging: requiring travel throughout the UK to client offices, balancing leading staff with business development and project management requirements, but also immensely rewarding: working on some of the largest infrastructure projects in the UK, applying the spectrum of geospatial solutions to client problems and helping us shape some of our industry leading geospatial technologies. You will be encouraged to grow whilst in this role both through regular training and by the business supporting chartership applications in a relevant industry body. These roles will report directly into the Geospatial Business Manager.


Responsibilities

• Lead your team of line managers to ensure that productivity targets are met
• Project manage geospatial work on large infrastructure opportunities above £100k
• Lead on opportunities above £100k both internal and external to Atkins. Ensure that offers and bids are prepared to a high standard and are reviewed, approved and authorised in line with the internal Atkins process.
• Input into the Geospatial strategy and help to ensure its success
• Be proactive in offering solutions to issues and opportunities
• Travel throughout the UK when needed to bring in new work and to provide support to projects.
• Represent the Geospatial team at external meetings and champion the Geospatial team to senior Atkins staff
• Be part of the Geospatial Senior Leadership team
• Ensure that project management of geospatial or information management projects within your team is carried out following established Atkins internal processes.

Person specification

• Strong communicator, able to communicate across all levels of a business
• Willing to travel for opportunities and projects. Away from home office for up to 2 weeks at a time and some international travel potentially required particularly to the Middle East and Canada
• Determined and resilient
• Proactive and positive person who will follow up all leads and opportunities
• Ability to apply strategic thinking to the future shaping of the Geospatial team

Essential

• Strong track record of leading a successful geospatial team and managing staff who are based in different offices
• Deep experience of successfully managing the GIS inputs into pressurised large multi-disciplinary projects
• Demonstrable experience of hitting personal and team productivity targets
• Experience of influencing senior management in the benefits of geospatial technology
• Experience of providing GIS text to formal external bids and writing internal proposals
• Ability to effectively sell the benefits of GIS to potential clients and generate business leads
• Demonstrable experience of information management and its importance to large infrastructure projects
• Thorough experience of using ESRI’s ArcGIS 10x and its extensions

Desirable

• Hands on experience of applying geospatial solutions in a BIM environment
• Good knowledge of FME
• Experience of mentoring team leaders
• Membership of a professional body with chartership status
