Our Transportation Division is currently seeking a Senior Group Engineer in our Birmingham office to support the delivery of Local Authority Professional Services across the Midlands region. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing Local Authority KAM Team who already hold position on Frameworks delivering for clients with exciting and challenging programmes of work:
• Tier One Primary Consultant for the West Midlands Shared Professional Services Contract (Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Councils)
• The West Midlands Transportation Professional Services Contract (Birmingham, Sandwell and Walsall Councils)
• WMCA/TfWM Lot 1: Project Development and Delivery
• WMCA/TfWM Lot 2: Transport Planning

The role will involve managing contract operations, engaging with clients, building on our and your current relationships, leading delivery teams in the provision of services and expanding the services we provide. Experience of primary and secondary tendering for contracts / frameworks will be a key part of the role.

Ideally you will have a background in Traffic Engineering and Road Safety Engineering. You will be familiar with working in large, geographically dispersed multidisciplinary design teams on projects at varying stages of development from feasibility to detailed design.

You’ll be working as part of one of the largest transportation consultancies in the UK, and a leading supplier of engineering services to local authorities, government, regulatory authorities, infrastructure owners and operators. Major clients include Local Authorities, Highways England, TfL, Network Rail, HS2, Train Operating Companies, Design & Build Contractors and other niche clients.

Objectives
The objectives of the role are:
• To maintain long term and durable collaborative partnerships with our Local Authority clients to yield significant benefits for our clients, Atkins and other involved parties.
• To support primary and secondary tendering for the Local Authority Market in the Midlands to maintain and grow our position.
• To drive our culture of high performance, innovation and continuous improvement in the management of the multi-disciplinary delivery teams and support services for our Local Authority clients.
• To ensure strong commercial and technical performance, innovation in delivery, and continuous improvement thereby securing a position of provider of choice with our clients.

Requirements
• Incorporated/Chartered Engineer MICE, MCIHT or equivalent.
• Extensive contract/framework management experience in the Local Authority/Transport Market, including expanding the scope and services provided.
• Able to demonstrate experience of building effective networks both internally and external to the organisation.
• Able to demonstrate experience of developing strong and sustainable relationships with clients, understanding their requirements and aspirations, and working effectively with them to achieve their objectives.
• A resourceful, articulate and clear communicator who can influence others using sound judgement and good sense – a natural team player.
• Highly developed interpersonal and leadership skills with proven ability to build and motivate teams.
• Strong presenting, negotiating and influencing skills.
• Focussed on Key Account Management and first-class service provision to develop strong, long lasting relationships.
• A disciplined thinker and analytical, numerate, problem solver who has strategic judgement and the capacity to think complex issues through and develop effective solutions in a timely fashion.
• Demonstrable experience of successfully operating within a target driven environment. Someone who consistently achieves and often over-delivers their targets.

Responsibilities
• Be the recognised leader of your contract(s), successfully delivering the client’s objectives and internal performance and commercial targets.
• Maintain relationships with client staff ensuring regular face to face engagement.
• Be the recognised key operational lead for your client(s), providing knowledge, resources and being the first point of contact for escalation for issues and opportunities relating to delivery of the services and widening of scope.
• Ensure compliance with the contract terms and conditions and undertakings as well as Atkins’ commercial governance.
• Co-ordinate the Atkins resources, both local core teams and virtual teams, to deliver your client’s objectives and internal performance and targets.
• Achieve all performance targets for your contract(s), service areas and projects.
• Manage a diverse portfolio of projects, as Project Manager.
• Manage supply chain relationships ensuring high quality delivery and performance of our suppliers.
• Be an ambassador for driving continuous improvement and innovation and sharing knowledge and lessons learnt across the Local Authority Market.
• Support the preparation of primary and secondary tenders and promoting Atkins’ capabilities in the Local Authority Market.
