The Role:
This is a great opportunity to join a high growth, high performing project team in a senior technical role.

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the technical delivery of our subsurface energy storage projects in the European hydrocarbon energy storage market.

Working within our team based in Germany and the UK, you will be an integral part of the delivery of innovative engineering solutions to the Energy Storage sector. You’ll be working closely with experienced colleagues, completing site and client office visits, executing project delivery and have the option of fixed term secondments. The individual will work within our Germany Energy business, predominantly facing our Energy Storage market and based either at our client site in Wilhelmshaven (near Bremen) or our home office in Hamburg. Flexibility for travel to client sites and our multiple office locations is essential for this role.

As a member of the team you would assume a senior technical role undertaking a variety of challenging engineering and project tasks, including integrity assessments and providing practical solutions to our clients’ challenges of managing operating assets.

The following are typical responsibilities:
• Use your knowledge and experience of mechanical engineering to plan and then lead the development of solutions to technical issues, communicating these solutions to clients and managing them through to implementation.
• Pipe work and pressure vessel stress analysis
• Fracture mechanics assessments
• Fatigue and creep life assessments of pressure parts
• Assessment of defects in pressure plant
• Develop inspection strategies for pressure systems
• Answering Technical Queries
• Liaise with clients (internal and external) on all aspects of the project cycle
• Assist in the preparation, management and completion of projects
• Carry out condition surveys of pipework, mechanical equipment and support structures
• Support brownfield design projects
• You will be expected to prepare detailed technical reports and other communications to a high standard and to provide authoritative diagnoses of findings to engineers and technical staff in related disciplines.

Requirements:

In addition to the above suitable candidates will demonstrate the following:
• Degree qualified in mechanical engineering
• Professional accreditation such as Chartership (or Euro equivalent)
• An appropriate level of relevant industrial experience, with preference for the hydrocarbon storage or conventional O&G sector.
• Experience working in a senior technical role
• Experience in the preparing / checking / reviewing engineering deliverables including:
o Specifications (technical / testing / manufacturing)
o Engineering drawings
o Engineering reports
o Calculations
• Demonstrable mechanical engineering experience and an excellent understanding of project delivery
• Ability to understand a wide range of processes through review of PFDs, P&IDs etc.
• Demonstrable ability to be able to communicate well, especially in the written form.
• Experience gained in design, asset management or life assessment of mechanical plant
• Knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations and the Pressure Equipment Regulations.
• Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams and develop solutions to solve complex and high impact problems,
• Understanding of the stages in an engineering project – applicable both to plant upgrade/modification and the implementation of a major new plant installation,
• Strong Quality, Safety, Environment (QSE) focus, with demonstrable track record of implementing these standards.
• The self-motivation to perform without close supervision;
• Positive outlook and approachable manner;
• Drive and ambition to help us create a market leading business;
• Travel to and from client sites and/or temporary secondment to client’s offices may also be required.

Desirable Criteria:
• A background in hydrocarbon storage or conventional Oil & Gas industry
• A knowledge of the German / European Engineering standards
• Experience of working with geographically dispersed teams
• An interest in emerging fields of energy engineering and technology
• Experience of working with geographically dispersed teams;
• Proficient in English and German

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
