Atkins Infrastructure business are looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Engineer who is looking to further develop their career in a forward-thinking Building Design practice. The role will be based in our Epsom office but presents the opportunity to join a national delivery team and work with designers across the UK and internationally through our Global Design Centre.

This opportunity will involve working as part of a national practice of Building Design professionals delivering engineering design solutions to clients across the UK. The Building Design practice work on projects across all our focus markets, including Aviation, Cities & Development, Commercial, Defence, Energy and Transportation.

As an Senior Engineer you will work closely with project delivery teams leading the mechanical services discipline. Your role will also focus on coordination between disciplines and may involve MEP leadership and project management.

Responsibilities

• To undertake Mechanical Building Services design
• Preparation of design calculations on industry standard software
• Preparation of technical specifications
• Carrying out design calculations on a variety of buildings
• Preparing drawings for drafting by our in-house BIM team
• Report writing
• Maintaining records and archives to company standards
• Site surveys and inspections
• Ensure Mechanical design quality is maintained
• Technical reviewing
• Coordination of MEP discipline
• Supervision / mentoring of Apprentice and Graduate Engineers.

 

Requirements
Minimum BEng or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related subject
• Working towards with Membership of IET or CIBSE is desirable
• Experience working in a design consultancy - experience of working within a contractor environment is additionally welcome
• High level of technical skill in Mechanical Building Services is essential
• Good level of computer literacy in Windows, IES, NBS and Microsoft packages - an understanding of AutoCAD/Revit is beneficial.
• Confident ability with good communication skills and a professional approach to clients and other Atkins employees
• Wider knowledge of other disciplines is desirable
• Able to see wider picture outside own discipline in projects
• Able to understand and express technical concepts in written and verbal language
• • Ability to collate information and have a clear and structured approach to report writing
• Able to innovate new solutions as well as applying existing solutions to problems
• Be willing to be mobile, travel within the UK and abroad for project related work when required.

 

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance.  If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
