Senior Mechanical (HVAC) Engineer

  • Job reference: EN-002868
  • Sector: Energy, Nuclear, Oil & Gas, Power
  • Location: Bristol
We are seeking an Engineer who thrives on making a strong personal contribution and who is motivated to help make the organisation a little better every day. You want to deliver – for the client, for the business and for yourself.

We need a personable engineer to join our growing HVAC team in Atkins’ Bristol office, where we are working to improve lives through safer, cleaner, smarter energy?

Does this sound like you? In which case, we’d love you to apply for the role.

The Role

Working within our Power New Build business in Bristol, you will be an integral part of the delivery of engineering solutions in the Nuclear Energy Sector. You’ll be working closely with our clients, completing site and client office visits, plant walkdowns and project delivery with the opportunity for fixed term secondments. By joining the vibrant Nuclear & Power Business, you can expect to work across the whole nuclear market from New Build to Decommissioning along with the wider energy market.

You’ll be responsible for the analysis, assessment, optioneering and design of HVAC and Mechanical Process systems, which can be stand-alone technical tasks or part of large multi-disciplinary projects. Working closely with our clients, you’ll be consulting with them to develop a full understanding of their project requirements, delivering cost effective and innovative solutions. You’ll also take the lead on some projects – co-ordinating the team and mentoring others

The Person

Building strong and trusted relationships is a key part of this role. You’ll enjoy working with others, sometimes directly at client sites, sometimes from our offices. You’ll be client focused – being able to interface with clients, understand their needs and convert opportunities into successful workstreams.

In addition to building excellent relationships with our clients, you’ll also be able to build excellent relationships within the team, being able to lead a team within a project, be a line manager, and mentor others. You’ll also have the ability to work individually or in multi-disciplinary teams

You will enjoy approaching things in different ways to find the best possible fit – you like making improvements and consider different approaches, trying to find the best approach to fit whatever is the current context.

In addition to having strong analytical and numeracy skills, other key requirements include:
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services;
• Chartered Member of the IMechE, CIBSE or ASHRAE;
• An appropriate level of relevant industrial experience- in the absence of power or nuclear industry specific experience, we would require experience of work associated with a highly regulated industry (e.g. Oil and Gas, Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Water);
• Demonstrable ability to be able to communicate well, especially with the written form;
• Experience of owning and delivering engineering projects individually or within teams of professional staff.

You may also demonstrate the below desirable requirements:
• Direct, relevant Nuclear Sector experience;
• Experience in mentoring junior engineers in task delivery;
• Experience in mechanical process design;
• Experience in HVAC design;
• Experience of BIM, i.e. Revit MEP/PDMS;

The team

As part of our Power New build business, our nuclear and high hazard HVAC team specialises in delivering HVAC and mechanical process focussed engineering to clients across industry. With existing relationships in Nuclear, both Civil and Defence sectors, as well as the wider energy market and beyond, we bring technical know-how from across the design lifecycle to help solve our client’s problems. With significant recent project wins, we see high hazard HVAC and integrated mechanical services as a growth area. Based in Bristol, we form part of a wider Nuclear and Power business which gives us unrivalled access to significant players in all parts of the industry offering breadth of diversity and opportunity.
