Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Denver, Colorado office as a Senior NEPA Planner.


MAJOR FUNCTIONS/ROLES:

Under direction, applies full competency in conventional planning work and broad knowledge of precedents in functional area of assignment. Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of planning assignments in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope. Work may involve land utilization, urban planning, transportation or archaeological projects.


JOB DUTIES:

Performs work which involves conventional practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials or procedures, or difficult coordination requirements.

Coordinates technical work requirements of planning projects.

Provides guidance to more junior planners in the design and preparation of plans and technical reports, and in the preparation of graphics, proposals, contracts, scopes of work and feasibility studies.

Conducts analyses to determine impact of proposed project.

Designs and formulates plans in graphic or written format.

Writes project proposal components.

Assists in the management of projects and acts as project manager on specific project tasks.

Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning or related field. This level may be achieved by Planners with five years experience since Bachelor's or four years since Master's. Typical incumbent has 6-7 years experience.


SPECIAL SKILLS:

Good technical writing, computer and communications skills. May be eligible for project management training.


PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS:

AICP certification preferred.

PE license is a plus.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

5-10 years of experience with a demonstrated working knowledge of NEPA, including coordination of supporting technical studies and schedule management.

 

Experience working with a Department of Transportation, CDOT Preferred.


Aptitude for maintaining a professional attitude and attention to detail while working alone, within a team environment, and/or on multiple projects, simultaneously.

Excellent technical writing, computer, and verbal communication skills with clients and colleagues.

Strong organizational, task and time management, deductive reasoning, and analytical skills.

Proficiency with the MS Office suite of software.

Ability to visit project sites if necessary.

Similar environmental consultation experience related to transportation and/or other linear projects (including projects with federal and state funding) preferred.
