Atkins are looking for a Senior Pavement Engineers to join our growing Pavement Consultancy team within the Transport Asset Management Practice. The primary focus of the role will be the technical delivery of a range of pavement engineering related projects for a number of national road administrators, local authorities and PPP organisations throughout the UK and overseas.
The role will require the successful applicant to assist the pavement technical lead within our pavement engineering consultancy, therefore proven skills and the ability to work as part of a team as well as independently will be required.
The post will be based in our Birmingham office and the successful candidate will work within a team of similar professionals across the UK. The postholder will be expected to undertake occasional short term visits or postings to other offices within the UK and international locations as required by projects.

Responsibilities

•Project management and/or technical delivery of a variety of consultancy projects in the field of pavement engineering;
•Preparation of scheme design options to suit varying budgetary scenarios for both new construction and maintenance works;
•Preparation of contract documents;
•Promote pavement and asset management within Atkins;
•Supporting in developing and enhancing client relationships with a number of public and private sector clients;
•Deliver, and ensure the delivery of others’ outputs to quality, programme and budget
•Complying with and championing company processes and policies, and ensuring adherence to safety, welfare, quality and environmental requirements


Requirements

•Degree in Civil Engineering or other relevant discipline
•Chartered or close to chartered or incorporated membership of a relevant professional institution or equivalent
•Sound knowledge and understanding of pavement design principles (Flexible, Rigid and Composite Pavements);
•Sound knowledge and understanding of earthworks and pavement materials (Concrete, Asphalt and Hydraulically Bound Materials);
•Experience in the use of UK and/or international standards for the design of pavements for highway, airfield, port and other applications;
•Knowledge of construction techniques and practices for new construction and maintenance works, including recycling;
•Experience in specification, execution, analysis and interpretation of a comprehensive range of geotechnical and pavement investigation and evaluation techniques;
•Experience in managing and delivering projects and meeting client expectations
•Ability to work in a client facing environment, with good communication skills
•Ability to work within a team

Desirable

•Experience of working in a range of project & environments – urban/rural, developed/developing countries and highway/heavy duty pavements.
•Experience in the use of analytical pavement design techniques and software packages
•Knowledge and understanding of Pavement Life Cycle Cost analysis and pavement management systems.
