Senior Planner / Planning Manager

Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Planner with extensive experience in the detailed planning of complex Transportation Projects, to be based within our Highways Sector, located in Epsom. The successful applicant will be the Project Controls Lead providing comprehensive Project Controls to the project teams and to the Client. You will report into the Project Controls Manager, with accountability to the Project Manager.

Key Requirements
•Lead, mentor and coach a small Project Controls team, with the aim of ensuring a portfolio of projects are NEC compliant;
•This may involve creating, presenting and implementing new planning processes, which would need Senior Management buy in, so the candidate needs to have the confidence and gravitas to do so;
•Must have strong, practical and demonstrable experience of various forms of contracts, including recent NEC contract experience;
•Must have experience in the forensic analysis of delay, including the compilation of claims process in relation to Extension of Time and/or Disruption;
•Must be proactive, driven and have a positive 'can do' attitude;
•Time served and seasoned planning professional;
•Transportation / Highways experience preferred.

General Requirements
•A detailed understanding of transportation technologies, including but not limited to: Highways, Structures (tunnels, bridges, earthworks, embankments, buildings, structures, gantries, access platforms etc), M&E and Telecoms;
•Experience of programming multi-disciplinary engineering design and managing the resulting interfaces;
•Must have an excellent understanding for how projects are designed, procured, constructed and commissioned;
•An expert user of Primavera P6;
•The successful candidate must have previous experience of managing planners, allocating tasks, checking achievements and providing constructive feedback, leadership and management;
•Experience of Schedule Risk and Cost analysis;
•Experience of Claims;
•Be able to demonstrate a detailed understanding of Project Controls Techniques including: budget and spend management, change control, resource management, Earned Value Management, data analysis, trend analysis and Work Package Management;
•Experience of working on large projects up to £50m;
•A hard working and flexible individual, who is a team player, possesses good attention to detail, is reliable, proactive and shows initiative whilst able to keep cool under pressure and when working to often demanding deadlines;
•Good interpersonal and communication skills both verbally and in writing. Team skills are essential, as the role will require working with different teams and individuals both internally and within the client organisation including ability to communicate effectively at all levels and across disciplines;
•A high expectation of performance for themselves and other members of the team;
•Self motivated and able to work both independently as well as within a larger multi-discipline team;
•Be available to travel across the UK and work away from home, with potential periods overseas on assignments, when required;
•Have a valid UK driving licence;
•Experienced Engineering Professional with a qualification in Mechanical/Civil Engineering preferred;
•Member of the APM preferred.



Responsibilities
•You will be responsible for all aspects of Project Controls of assigned projects.
•Provide regular supervision to junior members of the team as required.
•Build relationships with limited set of common Clients and maintain regular contact.
•Provision of project performance data, project schedules and reports in a concise and timely manner as required by the projects teams.
•Ensure all issues, project deviations and slippages within the programme are highlighted and understood by Senior Management, giving appropriate planning advice to allow them to direct the project appropriately.
•You will deliver the Period Programme Update and information regarding change and delays that have impacted the programme on a period by period basis.
•Conduct Planning Audits on a periodic basis to ensure compliance to process and procedures.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
