Atkins Ecology is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Ecologist, specialising in ornithology, to join our expanding team.

Atkins currently has over 70 ecologists based in offices around the UK. We operate across the UK and internationally, and are organised into regional practices within which staff collaborate on projects with colleagues from other environmental and engineering disciplines.
This role location is flexible and the successful candidate will input on projects across the UK.
The Role
The successful candidate will be expected to:
• Manage and lead the ecological input to a varied range of projects across different sectors;
• Manage the ornithological input to projects and support other staff in this area;
• Lead, plan and co-ordinate field surveys and plan and co-ordinate ecological mitigation works;
• Undertake reporting including ecological impact assessments and Habitat Regulations Assessments;
• Build client relationships and generate opportunities;
• Mentor junior colleagues;
• Prepare bids and help win work for the team; and
• Collaborate with our multi-disciplinary teams within the region.
Qualifications
• A degree in a relevant discipline.
• Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
• Chartered Ecologist or Chartered Environmentalist, (or be working towards Chartership); and
• A full valid UK/EEC driving licence.
Essential Criteria
The following criteria are essential for the role:
• At least 5 years experience in ecological consultancy;
• Demonstrable ecological knowledge, specialising in ornithological survey and assessment;
• Excellent ornithological field skills, with demonstrable experience and ability of ID (by sight and sound) across a range of habitats;
• Experience of leading on Habitat Regulations Assessments (Screening and preferably Appropriate Assessment); and
• Experience of project co-ordination, production of bids and management of budgets.
