Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to develop your career as an ecological consultant? We are seeking an experienced ecologist to join our ‘North, Scotland & Northern Ireland’ region, based in our Warrington office. This is a permanent position with fantastic opportunities.

This role will see you joining an established and motivated team in a multi-disciplinary office. You will be responsible for project resourcing, project management, leading and developing staff and winning work across all our key markets. 

The Atkins ecology team has over 70 ecologists based in the UK and is committed to providing expert and pragmatic ecological advice throughout the UK and internationally. We have a reputation for delivering technically demanding projects with innovative approaches. Atkins works for a range of government departments, multi-national industrial clients, funding agencies and lenders, property developers, and regulatory authorities. Although the majority of work is expected to be regional, there will be technical collaboration and networking with all ecologists working within the company. We work extremely closely together nationally with technical networks for specialisms and opportunities to develop areas of strength with like-minded experts. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for generating opportunities, maintaining existing and building client relationships, collaborating with our multi-disciplinary teams in the region and leading a team of ecologists to deliver a range of projects.

You will need full membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) and either have, or be able to demonstrate working towards, Chartered Ecologist or Chartered Environmentalist status.

About you
• Experience as an Ecologist/Senior Ecologist in a similar (i.e. consultancy) role;
• Accomplished at Phase 1 habitat surveys and a range of protected species surveys;
• Experience in writing a range of high-quality technical reports and proposals (experience of checking technical reports and proposals would be an advantage);
• Experience of undertaking Ecological Impact Assessment, protected species development licence applications and implementation of mitigation on site;
• Experience of project co-ordination, production of bids and management of budgets;
• Botanical skills and/or a survey licence for one or more protected species; 
• Good planning and organisational skills, including taking responsibility for managing yours and others time; and
• A clear understanding of the importance of health and safety risk management.
