SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business is one of the world’s leading Design, Engineering and Project Management Consultancies. We have the breadth and depth of expertise to respond to the most technically challenging and time critical infrastructure projects. 

We are currently looking to appoint a confident Senior / Principal Geoenvironmental / Contaminated Land specialist to join our Contaminated Land and Hydrogeology (CL&H) practice based in Birmingham, expanding our 15 strong team of geo-environmental / geotechnical engineers and hydrogeologists. 

The vacancy is for someone who:

• has proven experience of the organisation and management of projects, liaison and management of clients and subcontractors;
• combines excellent organisational, technical, numerical and communication skills to demonstrate logical thinking and concise reporting;
• is highly motivated and proactive, with demonstrable energy, drive and enthusiasm; and
• has an innovative nature with problem-solving skills.

The Contaminated Land & Hydrogeology (CL&H) Practice is a well-established, national, award winning, environmental and engineering practice with an extensive portfolio of regeneration and development projects and a highly skilled team winning numerous industry awards over the years. The successful candidate will be an important part of an innovative and technically excellent team helping deliver major projects locally and nationally. Atkins invests in our core technical disciplines with established technical networks for all aspects of contaminated land assessment and remediation which drive knowledge sharing, staff development and innovation across our practice and broader business. 

As a member of our team you will be involved in range of office- and site-based projects, working with our staff to deliver excellence to our clients, and with a wide range of other professionals to deliver holistic solutions to environmental and engineering problems. Our client and project base is highly diverse with current projects in the nuclear new build, oil and gas, regeneration and redevelopment and major road and rail sectors. 

Responsibilities
• Providing technical guidance, constructive support and mentoring to junior staff and supporting their technical development.
• Liaison with clients, stakeholders, regulators, sub contractors and other internal disciplines. 
• Project Management and the technical delivery of a wide variety of projects including Phase 1 Desk Studies, Phase 2 site investigations, Remedial Options Appraisals, Remediation Design, MMPs, Demolition and Earthwork Specifications, EIA chapters, etc. 
• Check, review and authorise the above reports and H&S documentation, peer review of third part reports.
• Compliance with Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, including reviewing H&S documentation and managing all aspects of health and safety.
• Assisting in developing new business and the preparation of commercial offers.
• Working with the local and wider Atkins team in advancing local and national projects.
• Developing own competence and maintain CPD necessary to fulfil the responsibilities of the role, with support from the business on own training and development needs.


Requirements
• Relevant post-graduate experience (ideally within a consultancy environment).
• Degree qualified in a relevant engineering or science subject (e.g. geology, geotechnics, hydrogeology, chemistry, environmental science) with 2.1 achievement or better.
• Masters qualified in a relevant specialism preferred, but not essential.
• Chartered with GeolSoc, IES, IEMA, CIWEM or equivalent. If not Chartered, we would expect the candidate, with our support, to become chartered 6 to 12 months after joining.
• Demonstrate a proven track record in contaminated land investigation and assessment with knowledge and experience in Phase 1 Desk Studies, Phase 2 Site Investigations, remedial options appraisals, and remediation design, supervision and verification / validation for a range of different types of projects and clients.
• Demonstrate a proven track record of project management of contaminated land and brownfield projects including managing small project teams resulting in delivery to high standards.
• Experience in the supervision of reclamation and / or remediation works, and associated contracts.
• Commercial awareness and understanding including being able to complete tenders.
• Ability and willingness to travel throughout the UK and work on short term assignments.
• Full UK driving licence.
