Join our Transport Planning team in Transportation Consultancy and your transport planning creativity and technical skills will transform projects. Atkins is looking for a talented individual to join our Transport Planning team based in Bristol.

We work on a diverse range of transport planning projects and have ambitions to grow. We’re looking for individuals who are able to take ownership of their work to help deliver exciting projects for local and regional clients such as the West of England authorities, Wiltshire Council, Swindon Borough Council, Hampshire Council and Gloucestershire County Council as well as national clients including the Department for Transport and Highways England.

Job Description
Atkins’ Transportation Consultancy Practice comprises of over 500 staff delivering planning, technical and advisory consultancy services to a wide-ranging client base in the UK and overseas. We are part of a larger Transportation business of 3,000 talented professionals covering highway, rail and local transport sectors in the UK.

Our teams are currently delivering exciting and important policy, strategy, modelling and research projects throughout the transportation sector. We are at the forefront of national and international policy-making, supporting key decision makers at all levels; and are also supporting cutting edge technology, including autonomous and connected vehicles.

We are looking for a Senior or Principal Transport Modeller to join our successful and growing team of 30 transport planners based in Bristol. Our transport planning services include transport modelling as well as model applications to support policy and strategy development, case making for a wide range of transport investments, undertaking demand, market and economic analysis and forecasting, development planning, and scheme feasibility and design.

Recent and current projects include:
• Highway scheme modelling, development and strategies such as Roads Investment Strategy and A303 Stonehenge Bypass;
• Rapid transit scheme development such as MetroBus in Bristol;
• Driverless cars and other transport technology projects such as VENTURER and FLOURISH;
• Wide range of transport studies, development planning and modelling support to local clients including West of England authorities, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Swindon and Hampshire; and
• Investment strategy and case making – managing and delivering modelling tools and fund bids for schemes or investment programme including WebTAG compliant business case development as well as innovative economic impacts assessment, supporting combined authorities and city regions in England

We are looking for talented individuals who are interested in working on a diverse range of local and nationwide projects and have ambitions to grow in technical skills as well as leadership capability.

Responsibilities
Depending on the level of experience, responsibilities of this role may include, but are not limited to:
• Transport modelling and analysis to support project appraisal, development and delivery on a range of transport projects;
• Scoping, development, validation, use and maintenance of transport network and junction models, on time and to budget;
• Preparation of technical and non-technical reports, as well as articulating findings to a wide range of audience;
• Design, planning and execution of transport / traffic surveys;
• Collaboration within a team and across disciplines to find optimal solutions to meet client and commercial needs
• Adoption of best practice and adherence to the Atkins quality processes in technical delivery on projects


Requirements
Relevant work experience in transport modelling is essential as well as experience in the development calibration and validation of transport models, model application, business case production and support for the planning process. We expect applicants to have:
• Practical experience of some strategic transport modelling and micro-simulation packages such as SATURN, VISSIM, S-Paramics, EMME, VISUM
• Appreciation of current modelling guidance
• Interest in, and understanding of, transport planning issues
• Proven capability in Excel and, if possible, VBA and GIS
• Excellent written, interpersonal and organisational skills

Furthermore, we would be particularly interested in candidates possessing the following additional skills and status:
• Use of other transport planning software such as DIADEM, TUBA, TRICS, Tempro, ARCADY, LINSIG;
• Variable Demand Modelling, and bespoke model design and implementation that is proportionate to its applications;
• Proven track record and ability to manage the delivery of or to coordinate proposals for the development and application of strategic or micro-simulation transport models supporting other transport planning studies;
• Ability to work flexibly and simultaneously across a number of projects and manage competing demands when interacting with clients and different teams around our UK offices;
• A relevant professional qualification (or working towards it), e.g. TPP or the Chartered status
• Ability to innovate, keen interest or experience in knowledge sharing
