Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Calverton, MD Group as a Senior Coastal Project Manager.


MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

In this role, you will provide project management and technical leadership to the coastal engineering projects and apply advanced methods to solve complex engineering problems. You are also responsible for coordinating resources, mentoring junior professionals and technical personnel, and maintaining quality standards and implementing Atkin’s quality management protocols.

In this role, you will also be responsible for managing the scope, schedules, clients, subs, and budgets of projects, reporting financial forecasts and tracking expenditures according to contracted requirements, supporting the preparation of scope, schedule, cost, and manpower estimates, and assisting with responding to requests for qualifications or proposals. You will apply your knowledge of the National Flood Insurance Program by providing project management and technical leadership to the development and delivery of flood risk studies for FEMA’s Risk MAP program. Candidates must have a thorough understanding of floodplain management, hazard mitigation, and risk communication.

Other job responsibilities may include performing project design or developing design concepts, planning and reviewing engineering investigations, drawings, and specifications, and evaluating plans and criteria for new projects to determine the most cost-effective or technically feasible solutions.


JOB DUTIES

Leads the delivery of flood risk projects including the development of regulatory and non-regulatory products. Monitors budgets, schedules, product quality, and compliance with applicable standards and reporting mechanisms.

Develops, communicates and manages project quality assurance, administrative procedures, communication guidelines, project deliverable formats and specifications, appropriate charging of manhours, and progress reporting requirements.

Defines scope of projects, selects problems for investigation, and determines best approaches or solutions to complex engineering problems. Oversees large-scale, multi-phase, coastal engineering projects. Conducts field studies, hydraulic/hydrodynamic modeling, engineering analysis, results and report preparation, and outreach.

Serves as mentor to associate project managers and technical staff. Coordinates the work of technical professionals and others assisting in specific assignments. Communicates with clients, establishes goals for project teams, and schedules and coordinates project resources.

Identifies new business opportunities for the firm, coordinates and participates in project presentations to clients and other external groups, and promotes firm's capabilities, marketing its services among existing and prospective clients.

Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in field(s) of practice. Graduate degree preferred. Management coursework and/or MBA a plus. This level may be achieved with ten years of experience in project production and technical professional activities, four of these working as a project manager.


SPECIAL SKILLS

Proven interpersonal skills, public speaking and persuasive ability; strong project financial management and team management skills; knowledge of production support systems and personal computer proficiency.


PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS

P.E. license is required. Certification as a “Project Management Professional” (PMP) or “Certified Construction Manager” (CCM) required within one year of assuming this position.

Ability to process paper/electronic documents and utilize computer equipment; ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; ability to visit project sites if necessary. Job also requires ability to plan, prioritize and review project plans and documents, evaluate alternatives, and devise appropriate solutions.
