Senior Project Manager

Requirements:

Qualifications:
• Chartered Engineer
• BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering

Essential Criteria:
• A passion for safety leadership
• Proven ability to manage projects including preparing programmes, deliverables schedules and managing risk with a fee income exceeding £200K per month
• Previous experience of working on Transport Scotland Schemes
• Appropriate academic and professional qualifications, including Chartered Engineer and Member of relevant Professional Institution.
• In depth knowledge and experience of delivering high quality design on roads and infrastructure projects
• Ability to prepare bids, draft and negotiate consultancy contracts
• Experience of planning and statutory processes
• Ability to identify and respond to our clients values in a competitive market sector.
• Proven ability to keep control in pressed situations, deliver work within set timeframes and create a well-motivated team.
• An understanding of how BIM is implemented on roads and infrastructure projects
• An understanding of the advantages in the advancement of digital technologies on roads and infrastructure projects
• Experience in leading public consultations
• Experience with Trunk road promotion and Scottish Government procedures for the preparation and publication of the relevant statutory road and compulsory purchase orders
• A collaborative approach to the delivery of projects
• Relevant commercial and contractual awareness
• A respected leader of people within a project team

Desirable Criteria:
• Prince 2 Practitioner or similar evidence of project management competency
• Experience of design management on design and build projects
• Experience of working in an alliancing arrangement
• Experience of monitoring construction contracts and of site management
• Understanding of Lean techniques and experience of their application
• Knowledge of project scheduling, including resourcing, using Primavera or Microsoft Project
• Experience of giving evidence at Public Local Inquiries
• Involvement in industry or professional activity

Responsibilities:
• Winning and successfully delivering one or more projects for our major clients, such as Transport Scotland
• Leading a multi-discipline team to develop high quality solutions on time and budget.
Ensuring work is “right first time” through implementing technical and quality assurance
• Providing visible leadership on safety on the projects
• Managing senior stakeholders across the Atkins Group and externally
• Develop excellent professional relationships with clients in order to secure repeat business.
• Presenting to clients and key stakeholders in a professional, responsive and client focused manner.
• Client, programme, commercial and financial management of projects
• Preparing and agreeing fee offers and variations with the client.
• Mentoring and supporting the development of the team.
• Assisting with the delivery of Transportation’s business targets
• Identifying and helping secure business and project opportunities for the wider Atkins Group based on key client relationships.
• Contributing to the development and implementation of best practice across the project delivery community

The Individual:
• Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills both verbally and in writing
• A hard working and flexible individual, who is a team player, possesses great attention to detail, is reliable, proactive and shows initiative whilst able to keep cool under pressure and when working to often demanding deadlines.
• Ability to build and motivate a team and demonstrate good leadership qualities
• Self-motivated and able to work both independently as well as within a larger multi-discipline team in leading and managing packages of work to completion, within budget and to programme.
• A high expectation of performance for themselves and other members of the team
• Customer focused with excellent relationship management skills
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
• A supportive and encouraging approach to mentoring less experienced members of the team
• Ability to adapt to different cultures and working environments to build rapport with clients
• Have a valid UK driving licence.
• Committed on ongoing professional and personal development
