Position: Senior Project Manager – Landscape & Environment

               Tanjung Aru Eco Development Project

 

Reporting to:  Project Director

                      Tanjung Aru Eco Development Project

 

Location: Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia

 

Basis: Full time (anticipated project duration approximately 3 years)

 



Role

 

Reporting to the Project Director, The Senior Project Manager (SPM) – Landscape and Environment shall be responsible for the overall project management of the landscaping, golf course and environmental monitoring and controls for the construction of the mixed use Tanjong Aru Eco Development Project. The SPM shall ensure the highest level of service to the client. You will oversee, monitor and coordinate the project to ensure it is completed on or before time, to budget and to the specified quality standards. 

 

As a senior member of the overall project team, you will provide leadership and managerial support to a team of technical consultants reporting to you, foster team work both within the Region and Faithful+Gould (the Company) generally, provide technical input to project teams and ensure that the client’s objectives are delivered.

 

The candidate shall demonstrate the following:

•Senior Landscape designer/contractor with hands on experience and suitable horticultural, science or environmental based degree with minimum 10 years professional experience

•Experience in design and or construction of large municipal parks and gardens – either as a consultant, contractor or owner

•Experience in managing the construction of golf courses preferred

•Experience in planning and management of the harvest and of large tree specimens

•Experience in the management of environmental controls in relation to Environmental Impact Assessments and Environmental Monitoring Plans.

•Site based project management or construction management experience preferred

•Clerk of works experience would be beneficial

•Strong communication skills required – both written and verbal as the role will require coordination with both a consultant team and the main contractor team.

•Structured approach to project management with demonstrated use of project management systems to manage deliverables, time and risk.

•Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while also coordinating with the project team to ensure an aligned approach

 

 Responsibilities

•The role involves the execution duties to the highest possible standards. It is expected that the SPM’s role will ensure sound people and project management, and will require include but not be limited to the following key functions:

                                                  

Planning/Scheduling

•Implement a high-level effective project management framework and method statement, incorporating necessary review processes as required

•Define and implement criteria for control and management of the project

•Co-ordinate and direct end-user input throughout the project lifecycle

•Appraise options and submit to the Client for approval

•Secure resources and expertise from the Client as required, e.g. appoint professional advisers to support the project sponsor role

•Lead and oversee the value management strategy

•Manage project budget, including risk allowance

•Monitor and control changes/variations following approval by Client

•Monitor compliance with construction program and identify opportunities for improved delivery

 

Risk Management

•Proactively identify potential problems, conflicts, design and delivery issues using risk management tools and skills to mitigate impact on the project

•Protect The Company’s contractual position at all times and bring to the attention of the Project Director any issues of a political or commercially sensitive nature

•Ensure company policies and procedures are followed including policies and procedure which may be unique to any joint venture arrangement

 

Site

•Establish the project site and facilities

•Oversee the effective operation of the site through conducting regular site visits and quality checks

 

People

•Invest in sound people management principles to ensure that the Company’s project team staff, contractors and JV partners works well and provides a supportive environment for the achievement of project and individual objectives

•Managing the welfare and motivation of The Company’s direct reports, such as Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers and Administration Assistants providing leadership, guidance and encouragement

•Plan for and undertake annual performance reviews in line with the Company’s processes

 

Contract Management

•Negotiate and convert contracts as required by the project/s

•Oversee the award of contracts and ensure the client is adequately protected

•Chair meetings and ensure minutes are actioned in a timely manner

•Provide timely regular and accurate reporting on the project progress, costs and quality as determined by the Director.

•Accurately check and sign-off on all payment certificates and invoices

•Ensure accurate finalisation of client accounts, provide substantiated recommendations for variations and ensure contractors and consultants are paid in accordance with contract schedules

 

Client Management

•Actively seek and implement strategies to improve the client’s position in regard to return and value

•Identity and resolve disputes quickly and reasonably

•Develop and maintain excellent relationships with client representatives, consultants, contractors and adjoining property owners

•Manage and coordinate the project handover phase with contractors, client contractors, tenants and building managers

 

Reporting

•Receive and review detailed reports on the project from the site delivery team including the appointed Consultants and Contractors

•Establish formal reporting arrangements on project progress for the Client and Company

•Maintain up-to-date project skite sheets and resumes for the project team for use by the Company

 

 

Business Development

 

In addition to your project role, as a representative of the Company, you will use your best endeavours to communicate potential business development opportunities to the Company and to actively promote the interests of the Company within the industry.

 

 

Financial Accountability

You will have primary responsibility for the financial well-being of the project.

A primary measure of your performance will be the ability to deliver within the cost budgets established in the project plan for the project and, therefore, optimising the revenues generated.

 

 

Delegated Authority

This role operates within the following delegations:

 

1.Financial – you may commit or expend funds for the project but only with the written approval of the Project Director or Client Representative as determined for each project.

2.Recruitment – you may commit to employing or negotiating staff positions but only with the prior written approval of the Project Director and in accordance with the Company’s procedure.

 

 

Skills and Attributes               

You should be equipped to:

•Manage and coordinate the inputs of project stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of the project

•Assess and resolve site planning and coordination issues

•Apply quality management principles and processes

•Apply risk assessment and management principles and processes

•Network effectively, negotiate well and influence people, broker relationships with stakeholders within and outside the project

•Be aware of the broader perspective and how it affects the project

Competence                             

This role requires you to be motivated and results-driven. You will need to be flexible and adaptable in your approach to resolving complex issues. As the key to success in the role is relationship management, you will have communication and interpersonal skills of the highest calibre.

 

Qualifications/skills                

You should possess a degree or trade qualifications in a construction related discipline and have a minimum of ten years relevant work experience.
