Atkins is the largest engineering and design consultancy in the UK, the largest multidisciplinary consultancy in Europe and one of the largest design firms in the world. We provide Architectural, Building Services and Civil and Structural Engineering design for the Airports, Defence, Commercial, Education, Government, Leisure, Health and Transport sectors.
Our design team based in Exeter are currently involved in a number of building structures projects within the UK and abroad and are looking to recruit a Senior Structural Engineer to join the team. The successful candidates will hold a degree or equivalent qualification, have solid experience in building structures and be chartered or near chartered with either the ICE or IStructE. The role may involve periods of time spent working away from Exeter and as such the candidates must be willing to travel.
1st or Upper 2nd Class Honours Degree (or equivalent) in Civil/Structural Engineering
Extensive post graduate experience working as a structural engineer in the buildings sector
Chartered or near Chartered Engineer status with all core objectives near completion.
Experience in the design of building structures using the conventional engineering materials (steel concrete, timber, masonry) to both British Standards and Eurocodes.
Ability to design to other international codes of practice would be advantageous.
Experience in conceptual design.
Experience in seismic design would be beneficial but not essential.
Strong problem solving abilities.
Good project management skills.
Excellent client facing skills
Good communication skills, verbal and written (for report writing purposes).
Ability to use AutoCAD and structural analysis software (Robot and Fastrak). Revit experience is also desirable.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-discipline team.
Ability to lead a design team and supervise more junior staff.
Key responsibilities will include:
Leading and undertaking structural engineering analysis and supervising junior staff
Production of structural engineering calculations to both Eurocodes and British Standards
Attending design team meetings
Working as part of a multidisciplinary design team.
Reviewing design work carried out by members of the team and also external third parties.
Assisting in the preparation of fee proposals.
Ability to inspect works carried out on site and monitor quality and compliance with design drawings.
Producing structural specifications
Carrying out structural surveys.
Prepare and direct CAD technicians to produce construction drawings.
Managing multidisciplinary projects.
Carrying out site surveys
