Role
We are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing Building Structures team in Atkins’ Colchester Office.

The successful candidate will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in Civil / Structural Engineering, have solid experience in the design and assessment of building and civil structures in the UK and be Chartered with either the ICE or IStructE. The role may involve periods of time spent working away from Colchester and as such the candidates must be willing to travel.

The proven ability to act as a discipline lead and run projects supervising more junior staff is essential as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. Additionally the successful candidate needs to be self-motivated and hard working with a desire to help grow and shape the current small team. Good commercial awareness and project management skills are desirable, along with a proven track record of good client relationships.

Team Introduction
The Infrastructure Building Structures team in the Colchester office currently comprises four staff working mostly on building projects. The team is part of a wider South East practice which is overseen and supported by Paul Martin from the larger Epsom structures team. The team works on a wide variety of local and national projects in the UK of all scales, recent projects include work for the University of Essex and the Metropolitan Police.


Requirements
In addition to the role requirements detailed above the following is required;

• 1st or Upper 2nd Class Honours Degree (or equivalent) in Civil/Structural Engineering;
• Extensive experience working as a structural engineer in the UK buildings sector;
• Chartered or near Chartered Engineer status (ICE or IStructE);
• Experience in the design of building structures using the conventional engineering materials (steel concrete, timber, masonry) to both British Standards and Eurocodes;
• Sound experience in conceptual design; and
• Ability to use AutoCAD and structural analysis software (Robot and Fastrak). Revit experience is also desirable.

Successful candidates may be required to undergo a security vetting process and offers of employment will be subject to relevant security clearance being granted.
