Atkins seeks an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our Orlando, FL staff as a Senior Structures Engineer.


MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE:

The candidate will perform analysis, design and structural reviews on a variety of design and design-build projects involving bridges, walls, toll facilities, culverts and other miscellaneous highway structures.

Under direction, applies full competency in conventional engineering work and broad knowledge of precedents in specialty area.

On design assignments, understands how to clearly convey the design intent to engineering drawings and specifications.

On assignments involving engineering investigations and planning work, has a firm grasp of the fundamentals of engineering processes and their application to operating systems.

On projects involving engineering services related to construction activities, has developed a thorough understanding of construction methods and the manner in which engineering drawings and specifications are translated into the constructed product.

Upholds engineering ethics and standards of conduct.


JOB DUTIES:

Perform and coordinate review of multiple design and design build projects including structural designs, bridge load ratings, drawings and specifications through different submittal phases and resolve design and construction related problems.

Perform conceptual or detailed designs and development of plans and drawings which may include the development of preliminary layout and/or detailed drawings.

Analyzes technical problems, research feasibility of proposed techniques and procedures, and devising new approaches and alternative solutions to suit site conditions, and other agency/entity requirements.

Develop scope of work, staff hours and request for proposals for design and design-build delivery and prepares schedules and budgets for in-house activities and communicates these with team members.

Provide engineering services during construction activities by reviewing shop drawings, request for information’s (RFI) and responses, address construction issues and provide input or guidance for resolution of construction problems.

Perform field observations of construction where appropriate.

Coordinate with client, consultants, contractors and other agencies, entities and disciplines as required.

Prepare meeting records and progress reports.

Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering from a recognized Institute. Master of Science in Structures highly desired.

Min 6 years of transportation structural engineering experience in bridge design and miscellaneous structural design.

Working Knowledge of software’s such as Microstation, AUTOCAD, Mathcad and structural analysis tools is required.

Knowledge of structural analysis and design of steel, prestressed and post tensioned/segmental concrete bridges is required.

Familiarity with design and plans production tools.

Understanding of FDOT requirements and practices for structures development is necessary.

Experience in structural engineering design, calculations, and production drawing oversight.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Reliable, consistent and mature approach to work.

Capable of independent thinking and problem solving but will recognize when to consult with more senior staff.

Able to work in a team environment.

Able to work under pressure.

Able to work independently with limited supervision.
