Senior Structures Engineer

Atkins seeks an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our Orlando, FL location as a Senior Structures Engineer.


Major Function/Role:
  • Under direction, applies full competency in conventional engineering work and broad knowledge of precedents in specialty area. 
  • On design assignments, understands how to clearly convey the design intent to engineering drawings and specifications. 
  • On assignments involving engineering investigations and planning work, has a firm grasp of the fundamentals of engineering processes and their application to operating systems. 
  • On projects involving engineering services related to construction activities, has developed a thorough understanding of construction methods and the manner in which engineering drawings and specifications are translated into the constructed product. 
  • Upholds engineering ethics and standards of conduct. 
  • Good communication skills and willing to work in a team environment.

Job Duties:

  • Project lead engineer in the design of steel and concrete bridge structures, interacting with senior and younger staff.
  • Involved in layout, analysis and design of bridges and other structures.
  • Assist with computation of plan quantities to support the opinion of probable costs.
  • Provide guidance to younger engineers in production. Reviews, assigns work and/or checks design calculations, estimates, and specifications produced by younger engineers.
  • Lead completion of final submittal documents for design projects.
  • Progresses from simple to moderately complex projects under general supervision.
  • Commitment to quality work and timely communication.


Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil (Structural) Engineering (Graduate Degree Preferred)
  • 8 to 12 years of bridge design experience

Special Skills:

  • Needs a strong understanding and hands-on use of structural software programs and plans production.
  • Needs an understanding and hands-on use of either Microstation or Autocad.
  • Design experience in concrete box superstructure design and/or curved steel girder design.
  • Experience with time-dependent analysis, construction staging, and/or erection analysis.

Professional Registrations:
  • P.E. license is required.
