Atkins seeks an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our Orlando, FL location as a Senior Structures Engineer.

Major Function/Role:

Under direction, applies full competency in conventional engineering work and broad knowledge of precedents in specialty area.
On design assignments, understands how to clearly convey the design intent to engineering drawings and specifications.
On assignments involving engineering investigations and planning work, has a firm grasp of the fundamentals of engineering processes and their application to operating systems.
On projects involving engineering services related to construction activities, has developed a thorough understanding of construction methods and the manner in which engineering drawings and specifications are translated into the constructed product.
Upholds engineering ethics and standards of conduct.
Good communication skills and willing to work in a team environment.

Job Duties:

Project lead engineer in the design of steel and concrete bridge structures, interacting with senior and younger staff.
Involved in layout, analysis and design of bridges and other structures.
Assist with computation of plan quantities to support the opinion of probable costs.
Provide guidance to younger engineers in production. Reviews, assigns work and/or checks design calculations, estimates, and specifications produced by younger engineers.
Lead completion of final submittal documents for design projects.
Progresses from simple to moderately complex projects under general supervision.
Commitment to quality work and timely communication.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor of Science in Civil (Structural) Engineering (Graduate Degree Preferred)
8 to 12 years of bridge design experience

Special Skills:

Needs a strong understanding and hands-on use of structural software programs and plans production.
Needs an understanding and hands-on use of either Microstation or Autocad.
Design experience in concrete box superstructure design and/or curved steel girder design.
Experience with time-dependent analysis, construction staging, and/or erection analysis.

Professional Registrations:

P.E. license is required.
