Senior Technical Lead - Transport Technology Appraisal

Atkins Transportation Division covers all aspects of multidisciplinary design and management from inception to options appraisal through to detailed scheme design and delivery support. Atkins is one of the UK’s leading multi-disciplinary consultancies engaged in numerous high profile projects for Clients in both the Public and Private Sector.

Atkins’ Transportation Consultancy Practice comprises of over 900 staff delivering planning, technical and advisory consultancy services to a wide-ranging client base in the UK and overseas. We are part of a larger Transportation business of 3,750 talented professionals covering highway, rail and local transport sectors in the UK & Europe.

Atkins is looking for an established transport economist/planner to lead our pursuit of transport appraisal and investment case making in the field of technology and innovation in transport projects, to support our clients in achieving their strategic ambition and increased success through their investments.

We are currently delivering exciting and important policy, strategy and research projects supporting cutting edge technology-based projects, including Mobility as a Service (MaaS), Smart Motorways and Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs).

The successful candidate will work with Economists and Planners within the Transport Planning team and work closely with our Intelligent Mobility and Digital Asset Management teams. The successful candidate will lead transport planning, economics and business case workstreams and projects.

Responsibilities
We are looking forward to strengthening our offering in pursuing opportunities in case making for technology-based investment programme proposals. Joining our expanding team, you will make the most of your technical quality focus and commercial brain to help our business continue to grow, by:
• sharing your insights on relevant subject matter and targeted end clients;
• influencing our strategy to deliver the aspired growth in specific technical areas;
• leading our pursuit and finding the best solutions to our clients’ challenges in improving the presence of their investment priorities on a national stage;
• formulation and promotion of best practice in relevant subject matter; and
• representation of our business during engagement with industry stakeholders and clients.

Requirements
We are seeking an accomplished transport economist/planner with recognisable successes that demonstrate:
• Expert knowledge and experience in the application of transport economic appraisal guidance and tools, and their practical applications in case making for technology-based and other transport schemes;
• A track record of leading teams in pursuing and / or delivering high quality and innovative economics and business case work;
• Proven ability to analyse data and produce evidence to support business cases for technology-based investment
• Demonstration of thinking ‘out of box’ and confidently championing technical approaches with clients, peers and key industry stakeholders;
• Ability to think strategically and align economic and business case appraisal to the over-arching strategic ambition of our clients;
• Ability to manage and direct commissions, meeting the client’s and commercial requirements; and
• Experience in leading the preparation of bids, business development and growth activities.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
