Our Planning and Environmental Consenting teams based in Warrington, London, Leeds, Epsom, Bristol, and Birmingham work with Atkins’ businesses and clients across the UK, providing us with a great variety of interesting and challenging planning work within a range of development and infrastructure projects. 

We require a Senior Planner for our Warrington office (with some opportunity to work within our Leeds or Manchester offices) to join our progressive Planning and Environmental consenting team. The position offers the opportunity to work as a key member of our planning team to help us deliver a wide range of planning applications, Development Consent Order submissions, development feasibility and evidence based studies. The role would include providing high quality advice to a variety of public and private sector clients across the transportation, housing/regeneration, water, and energy markets. A key part of the role will also be to work collaboratively with a wide range of environmental disciplines within the wider Atkins UK teams, to provide comprehensive advice for clients across a variety of challenging infrastructure schemes. The position requires a Planner, preferably with experience of working within a professional planning practice, or local authority; some working knowledge of the Development Consent Order process would be an advantage. 

Responsibilities 
• Preparation of planning applications and relevant supporting documents for a range of development proposals, including, where required, for Development Consent Order Applications;
• Co-ordination of wide ranging technical and specialist input to planning applications; 
• Client liaison;
• Providing support at public consultation events, required as part of the pre-application consultation process, and recording related data;
• Negotiation of planning applications through the consenting process;
• Planning policy reviews for transport, water, housing/regeneration, environmental and energy projects across the UK 
• Provision of development planning support to the in-house Atkins businesses on a range of infrastructure projects
• Preparation of a range of evidence based studies and provision of associated development advice


Requirements
• A relevant planning degree 
• Full RTPI membership;
• Relevant experience of working in planning practice or a local government planning team. Working knowledge of the Development Consenting Order process from either a private sector consultant/developer or local authority perspective would be desirable;
• Sound knowledge of planning law and procedures, including the changing planning system at national and local levels

There is an opportunity for the successful applicant to utilise and develop their planning knowledge by working within a busy and expanding Planning and Environmental Consenting team, in its response to a wide range of opportunities. 

The individual will have: 
• Good communication skills, with the ability to draft persuasive, accurate reports to a high standard 
• Ability to meet challenging, tight deadlines 
• Able to work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and also the confidence to input effectively as an individual across a range of planning projects
• Flexibility to travel to other Atkins UK regional offices
