Atkins seeks an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to join our Planning team in our Raleigh, NC office.


MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE:

Under direction, applies full competency in conventional engineering work and broad knowledge of precedents in specialty area.
On design assignments, understands how to clearly convey the design intent to engineering drawings and specifications.
On assignments involving engineering investigations and planning work, has a firm grasp of the fundamentals of engineering processes and their application to operating systems.
On projects involving engineering services related to construction activities, has developed a thorough understanding of construction methods and the manner in which engineering drawings and specifications are translated into the constructed product.
Upholds engineering ethics and standards of conduct.


JOB DUTIES:

Performs work that involves conventional transportation and traffic engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials or procedures, or difficult coordination requirements.
Primary responsibilities would include, but are not limited to, those stated below:
• Perform traffic simulation and capacity analysis;
• Develop project level traffic forecasts;
• Prepare written reports and presentations of project findings;
• Communication with client and other project disciplines;
• Analyze historical crash data; and
• Perform field reviews of project study areas


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

B.S. or M.S. in Engineering.
This level may be achieved by Engineers with four years' experience since B.S.; three years experience since M.S.
Incumbents typically have six to ten years' experience since Bachelor's degree.


SPECIAL SKILLS:

Good technical writing, computer and communications skills. May be eligible to receive project management training.
Preference will be given to candidates that have the following skills and/or experience:
• Experience with traffic analysis software (TransModeler, Synchro, HCS, Sidra, VISSIM, CORSIM, etc);
• Experience with traffic forecasting procedures;
• Experience with travel demand modeling using TransCAD; and
• Signal design, signal timing, signal plan development and/or traffic control experience


PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS:

P.E. license is required.
