Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Atlanta, GA Transportation Planning Group as a Senior Traffic Engineer.


MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

Under minimal direction, applies full competency in conventional transportation and traffic engineering work and broad knowledge of precedents in specialty area. On project assignments, understands how to clearly convey the resulting analysis to both team members in other engineering disciplines and clients. On assignments involving engineering investigations and planning work, has a firm grasp of the fundamentals of engineering processes and their application to operating systems.


JOB DUTIES

Generally, applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of somewhat diversified tasks requiring the use of analysis, interpretation, and deductive reasoning. Will assist with work that involves conventional transportation and traffic engineering practice.

Primary responsibilities would include, but are not limited to, those stated below:

Perform traffic simulation and capacity analysis at varying levels of geography (regional, corridor, intersection)

Develop project level traffic forecasts including the analysis of existing traffic counts, determining growth rates, traffic diversion, etc.

Supporting with the preparation of written reports and presentations of project findings

Analyze historical crash data.

Perform field reviews of project study area.

Prepares cost and man-hour estimates, job budgets and schedules.

Prepares or oversees the preparation of final plans and reports and submits them for approval.

Conducts or oversees personnel involved in engineering investigations and planning work.

Coordinates work with other engineers and professionals within and outside own discipline, and with support services staff. 

May occasionally assist in the management of projects.

May perform such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.




EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

B.S. or M.S. in Engineering. This level may be achieved by Engineers with four years' experience since B.S.; three years experience since M.S. Incumbents typically have six to ten years' experience since Bachelor's degree.


SPECIAL SKILLS

Good technical writing, computer and communications skills. May be eligible to receive project management training.

Preference will be given to candidates that are familiar with and/or have experience with traffic analysis software (TransModeler, Synchro, HCS, Sidra, VISSIM, CORSIM, etc.) and is familiar with Georgia Department of Transportation procedures and policy guidance.

Experience in applying regional travel demand models in Cube and/or TransCAD is desirable but not required.

Familiarity with big data analysis (AirSage, INRIX, NPMRDS, etc.)


PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS

P.E. license is required.

Ability to process paper/electronic documents and utilize computer equipment; ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; ability to visit project sites if necessary. Job also requires ability to assemble and analyze data, and plan/prioritize project tasks.
