Atkins seeks an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our Denver, CO team as a Senior Traffic Engineer.
Major Function/Role:
Under direction, provides the expertise of a seasoned engineer to all conventional aspects of functional area and applies advanced concepts and techniques to unconventional engineering problems.
May function as individual researcher or technical specialist.
Upholds engineering ethics and standards of conduct.
Job Duties:
Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments.
Work requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices.
Primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Manage projects and perform technical work that includes conventional traffic engineering and/or transportation planning practices, and a variety of complex issues such as transportation safety and innovative technologies.
Traffic simulation and capacity analysis as a primary task.
Coordinate and participate in contract negotiations with clients and subconsultants.
Conduct quality control reviews.
As a project manager, monitor scopes, schedules, and budgets, and review and approve invoicing.
Maintain frequent contact with clients and regulatory agency personnel to determine their respective needs and requirements.
Supervise other project managers, technical professionals and other design staff.
Mentor junior staff through projects and career development.
Education & Experience:
B.S. or M.S. in Engineering. M.S. or graduate level technical coursework preferred.
This level may be achieved by Engineers with seven years of experience since B.S. or 6 years since M.S.
Typical incumbent has ten to fourteen years of experience.
Special Skills:
Proven technical writing and communication skills.
Incumbent may be eligible for project management training.
Positive attitude and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Traffic engineering and/or transportation planning background required.
Demonstrated ability to monitor scopes, schedules, and budgets, manage subconsultants, and review and approve invoicing as a project manager.
Proven ability to develop high quality work products.
Demonstrated ability to relate well to clients.
Experience with traffic simulation and travel demand forecasting software programs a plus.
Professional Registrations:
P.E. license is required.
