Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Bartow, FL FDOT District 1 team as an Senior Transit Specialist.


MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE
  • Atkins is looking for an experienced and talented individual to join our Bartow, Florida planning team to provide FDOT District 1 transit planning services as embedded staff at District 1 headquarters.
  • We're looking for an individual to help direct strategic planning, development, and implementation of transit programs and initiatives for FDOT District 1, including technical analysis of needs and development of short-term and long-term improvements on a strategically defined network. You will coordinate transit planning activities with metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs), representatives of other governmental agencies, consultants, and the general public. You will be responsible for overseeing the development and monitoring of transit improvements in the District’s Work Program, and provide technical oversight and guidance for the District’s involvement in other agencies’ transit and multimodal projects. You will manage consultant work activities and ensure coordination and communication with all stakeholders.
  • You'll make the most of your analytical skills and client focus to guide others and deliver interesting high-quality transit projects.

JOB DUTIES
  • Direct strategic planning, development and implementation of transit programs and initiatives in FDOT District 1.
  • Use analytic and/or programming skills to analyze transit and multimodal projects.
  • Manage consultant work activities and ensure coordination
  • Apply knowledge of transportation and transit planning and integrated multimodal transportation systems
  • Lead and work with diverse groups of people
  • Manage transit related projects and programs in accordance with state and federal regulations
Atkins is looking to add staff who:
  • Is dynamic and passionate about the transit planning field
  • Have an interest and appreciation of current transport policy and the key factors influencing state and local programs
  • Demonstrates a proven track record in applying a range of relevant analytical techniques to meet varying client / project requirements on a diverse range of projects
  • Has good organizational, communication, time and budget management skills


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning, Engineering or related field. Master's or graduate level technical coursework preferred. This level may be achieved by Planners with ten years experience since Bachelor's or nine years since Master's. Typical incumbent has 12-15 years experience. Some public agency experience desirable.

SPECIAL SKILLS
  • Good technical writing, computer and communications skills.
  • May be eligible to receive project management training.

PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS
  • P.E. license or AICP certification is a plus
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience required.
