Role: Senior Transport Consultant/Engineer (Sustainable Transport)
Division: Transportation Structures Practice
Location: Bristol or Cardiff

Atkins is seeking a Senior Transport Consultant to support the existing Transportation team within South Wales and the South West of England on major projects.

The ideal candidate will possess the following key requirements for the role;

Key Requirements:
• Degree qualified in a relevant subject (Civil Engineering / Transport Planning or similar)
• Significant experience of walking and cycling projects from initial planning and strategic advice through to feasibility studies and scheme delivery
• A high level of technical awareness of vulnerable user standards, policies and best practice
• Awareness of UK highway design documents within DMRB and others – such as Active Travel (Wales) Act
• Full driving licence

Additional Advantageous Experience:

• An ability to devise and present initial and innovative solutions to complex walking and cycling problems
• An ability to lead small technical pieces of work such as feasibility studies, including managing and prioritising own workload
• PRINCE2 Project Management Qualification or equivalent
• Membership of relevant technical institutions – e.g. ICE, CIHT, CILT
• Evidence of CPD relating to walking and cycling infrastructure design
• Experience of conducting Non-Motorised User Audits in accordance with HD 42/05
• Experience in developing vulnerable user policy and strategy documents

The Role will primarily focus on sustainable transport, delivering advice in relation to pedestrian, cyclist and equestrian requirements on major projects.

The main aspect of work will include advising clients on solutions to walking and cycling problems and formulation of highways design standards and guidance documents and will assist the current team in this respect. The ideal candidate will also be able and willing to assist with business development in the field of sustainable transport across the region.

Responsibilities:

• Production of feasibility studies for walking and cycling projects
• Ad-hoc advice for internal and external clients with regards to walking and cycling design projects
• Assisting the wider Transportation team with larger, complex projects such as UK standard, policy and guidance document updates
• Assistance with business development across the region
• Assistance with coaching and training of junior/graduate level staff
• Assistance with technical training delivery
• Managing stakeholder consultation processes as required

Additional Information: The actual full-time working hours are to be agreed with the line manager in due course. Some flexibility may be required by the successful candidate in order to meet project and client needs. A part-time role may be considered.
