Join our Transport Planning team in Transportation Consultancy and your transport planning creativity and technical skills will transform projects. Collaborating with specialists from across our business as part of multidisciplinary teams, you’ll work on flagship regeneration, site expansion and development projects. Making the most of your transport planning and development skills, you’ll create streetscapes, secure developers planning approval and deliver sustainable and accessible developments. If you can present your ideas and build strong customer relationships – you’ll enjoy influencing mixed use developments, housing communities, airports, schools, sustainable transport, public realm schemes and more.
Atkins is looking for a talented individual to join our Transport Planning team based in Bristol.

We’re looking for individuals who are able to take ownership of their work to help deliver exciting projects for local and regional clients such as the West of England authorities, Wiltshire Council, Swindon Borough Council, Hampshire Council and Gloucestershire County Council as well as national clients including the Department for Transport and Highways England.
Atkins’ Transportation Consultancy Practice comprises of over 500 staff delivering planning, technical and advisory consultancy services to a wide-ranging client base in the UK and overseas. We are part of a larger Transportation business of 3,000 talented professionals covering highway, rail and local transport sectors in the UK.
Our teams are currently delivering exciting and important policy, strategy and research projects throughout the transportation sector. We are at the forefront of national and international policy-making, supporting key decision makers at all levels; and are also supporting cutting edge technology, including autonomous and connected vehicles.

We are looking for a Senior Transport Planner to join our successful and growing team of 30 transport planners based in Bristol. Our transport planning services include policy and strategy development; case making for a wide range of transport investments, undertaking demand, market and economic analysis and forecasting; development planning; transport modelling and scheme feasibility and design.

Recent and current projects include:
• Highway schemes and strategies such as Roads Investment Strategy and A303 Stonehenge Bypass;
• Rapid transit scheme development such as MetroBus in Bristol;
• Driverless cars and other transport technology projects such as VENTURER and FLOURISH;
• Wide range of transport studies, development planning and modelling support to local clients including West of England authorities, Gloucestershire, Swindon and Hampshire; and
• Investment strategy and case making – managing and delivering fund bids and strategic economic narrative for schemes or investment programme including WebTAG compliant business case development as well as innovative economic impacts assessment, supporting combined authorities and city regions in England
We’re looking for talented individuals who are interested in working on a diverse range of local and nationwide projects and have ambitions to grow in technical skills as well as leadership capability.

We would also be willing to consider candidates who wish to be based in our new Cardiff office, where we have a team of 11 transport planners.

Responsibilities

Depending on the level of experience, responsibilities of this role may include, but are not limited to:
• Taking responsibility in delivering a diverse range of projects;
• Adoption of best practice and adherence to the Atkins quality processes in technical delivery on projects;
• Involvement in managing the delivery of technical work, and the financial / commercial management of projects;
• Producing documentation of the work undertaken, and presenting findings to internal and external audiences;
• Leading or assisting with method statements and bidding opportunities; and
• Supporting local framework contract managers or transport planning leads in actively engaging with our clients in relation to wider transport planning commissions.


Requirements
We welcome applications from highly motivated and skilled individuals who are or have:
• Dynamic, enthusiastic, proactive and passionate about transport planning;
• A relevant professional qualification (or working towards it), e.g. TPP or the Chartered status;
• Good written and interpersonal communication skills to engage effectively with clients and teams across Atkins;
• A problem solver with analytical experience and relevant knowledge of and skills in relevant technical techniques, tools and guidance;
• Good awareness or proficiency in applying some of the following modelling / analysis tools such as SATURN, TUBA, VISSIM, S-Paramics, GIS in transport planning, development planning, strategy making and business case development studies;
• Ability to innovate, keen interest or experience in knowledge sharing;
• Interest or experience in proposal writing and bid coordination;
• Willing to work simultaneously on a number of projects and flexible to work with different teams around our UK offices including co-location in client offices.
• Proven track record and ability to manage projects successfully, delivering technically excellent projects on time and to budget; and
• Knowledge of UK transport planning market, financial management, business development and client liaison experience.
