Atkins is looking for experienced and talented Senior Transport Planners to join our Transport Modelling and Data Analytics teams in Epsom.

We are a growing Practice working on a diverse range of high profile projects. We’re looking for individuals to help deliver projects for local, regional and key national clients including Department for Transport, Highways England and many local authorities. You will have relevant detailed hands-on experience in the support, development and application of a wide range of highway, public transport and multi-modal modelling and be comfortable providing detailed technical support in their application across the business.

We have a strong forward workload with major clients in central government, local government and the private sector. Our teams are currently delivering exciting and nationally important infrastructure projects. They are developing new technical solutions to meet the challenges and opportunities provided by Intelligent Mobility including the application of mobile phone data and other sources of ‘big data’.

We analyse and provide modelling services related to a range of schemes from road investment and new railways to bus rapid transit, sustainable solutions and transport technology projects. Our projects range from small to big-hitting giving opportunities to suit everyone.

Looking at complex modelling applications, you will have a sound understanding of the SATURN, DIADEM, TEMPro and EMME transport modelling software as well as the TUBA and WITA appraisal tools. You will have significant experience in providing technical support, to both internal and external users, to ensure good practice is consistently used. You will also be comfortable in undertaking detailed investigations during the development and application of transport models. For example: (i) analysing DIADEM forecast runs and identifying revisions to improve model robustness and performance; (ii) reviewing outputs from WITA and suggesting refinements in accordance with the latest Transport Appraisal Guidance; (iii) development of new demand forecasts using TEMPro (and NTEM) including alternative planning scenarios; and (iv) developing new processes to improve linkages between SATURN and GIS applications with innovative use of Visual Basic (or equivalent).

You will play an important supporting role in our excellent team and continue to develop your skills through experience, working on the range of our existing projects, in combination with exceptional formal training opportunities. You’ll make the most of your analytical skills, experience in supporting, developing and applying transport models to guide others and deliver interesting high quality projects. The position will be based in Epsom, although it is expected that there will be travel to other Atkins offices

Remuneration will be between £32,000 and £37,000 dependent on experience.

This role will be advertised from the 17th May 2017 and applications will close on the 15th June 2017.



Responsibilities:
• Working on a range of transport modelling and other Transport Planning activities, primarily focused on both the development and practical application of transport demand, highway and public transport assignment modelling;
• Providing technical input to projects ensuring best practice is followed leading to the efficient and timely delivery of projects;
• It is also expected that the individual will also work on a range of transport modelling projects outside of the South East for a range of clients as well as leading on training and inter-action with modellers elsewhere.
• forecast the impact on traffic and transport of new developments
• assesses schemes to manage traffic such as congestion charging and parking controls
Requirements:
• Degree in relevant subject
• Experience in assisting the development, application and documentation of highway, multi-modal modelling and demand modelling for both internal and external users;
• Experience in the support, development and application of transport models using SATURN, DIADEM and EMME software;
• Experience in the use and application of GIS Techniques to transport modelling outputs and analysis;
• Experience in the development and application of transport appraisal tools including TUBA and a detailed understanding of WITA;
• Experience in the use and application of VB macros and other programming languages; and
• Ability to interpret and communicate modelling results.
