Atkins seeks an experienced Senior Transportation Planner to join our team in our Raleigh, NC office.


MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE:

Position is to support Atkins statewide, regional, and corridor transportation planning and transportation policy planning activities nationwide, with a focus on North Carolina and the mid-Atlantic area.

Would support diverse assignments such as corridor master planning, traffic forecasting, and comprehensive transportation planning.

Position will provide the following project roles: lead technical professional (engineer or planner), task manager, or project manager.

Individual will manage internal project staff and sub consultants, coordinate with clients, and facilitate engagement with study stakeholders, both public and agency, and participate in proposals and business development.

Under direction, this position provides the expertise of a seasoned planner, applying advanced concepts and techniques to unconventional problems.

May function as individual contributor or technical specialist.


JOB DUTIES:

This position manages transportation planning projects and major planning tasks that are part of larger projects.

May lead or support transportation planning proposal preparation and participate in business development activities.

Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring diversified knowledge of planning principles and practices in broad areas of assignments.

Work requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning or related field.

Master's or graduate level technical coursework preferred.

This level may be achieved by Planners with seven years’ experience since Bachelor's or six years since Master's.

Typical incumbent has 8-10 years' experience.


SPECIAL SKILLS:

Proven technical writing and communications skills. Requires substantial responsible experience (project manager or lead technical professional) in preparation of statewide or regional transportation plans, traffic forecasting, MPO coordination, and local comprehensive transportation plans, preferably with NCDOT.


PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS:

AICP Certification or PE desired.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Strong understanding of federal and state transportation planning and project development regulations.

Strong analytical ability to extrapolate from existing data bases to draw supportable programmatic conclusions and recommendations.
