Atkins seeks an experienced Senior Transportation Planning Engineer to join our Planning team in our Miami, FL office.


MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE:


Under general direction, provides technical expertise to diverse transportation planning projects throughout the assigned area of responsibility and/or company-wide.

On design assignments, understands how to clearly convey the design intent to engineering analysis, drawings and specifications, as may be required.

On assignments involving investigations and planning work, has a firm grasp of the fundamentals of planning processes and their application to urban, development and transportation planning.

Upholds professional ethics and standards of conduct.


JOB DUTIES:

Work involves planning and developing transportation projects or services, some concerned with unique or controversial problems which have an important effect on major client projects and programs.

May function as lead engineer/planner or technical consultant.

Work may involve land utilization, urban planning, corridor planning, traffic analysis, traffic planning, and transportation and transit planning projects.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning or related field.

Master's or graduate level technical coursework preferred.

This level may be achieved by Planners with ten years’ experience since Bachelor's or nine years since Master's.

Typical incumbent has 12-15 years’ experience. Some public agency experience desirable.


SPECIAL SKILLS:

Strong technical writing and communication skills are expected at this level, proven through technical presentations, technical papers and/or participation in technical committees.

Experience in structured marketing initiatives and proposals also highly desired.

Familiarity with transit planning, freight planning, master plans, and corridor studies.

Understanding of traffic analysis and simulation tools; familiarity with travel demand models is a plus.

May be eligible for project management training.

Ideal candidate will be a self-promoter, energetic and personable.

This position will interact directly with clients in the Miami and South Florida market and must demonstrate a hands-on, responsive client service orientation.


PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS:

Florida PE required, and AICP Certification desired.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Spanish speaking would be a plus.
