Atkins Nuclear business has been operating for over four decades. Alongside our new build expertise, we maintain existing nuclear fleet and decommission those coming to the end of their life. As a result of continued growth in the Atkins Rutherford House, Cumbria (Whitehaven) Nuclear office, we are looking to recruit experienced an experience RP / Waste Professional with a proven track record in working in nuclear decommissioning projects.

The successful candidate shall be required to support the delivery of high hazard projects from within the Decommissioning Waste Management and Radiological Protection team. He/she will collaborate with other projects to deliver work to time and quality. The candidate will also be supporting the development and career progress of less experienced individuals in the team.

Responsibilities

• Provide advice to the company and projects on areas of Radiological Protection and Rad Waste Management in the following areas:-
o ALARP Studies
o Dose estimation and management
o Investigations
o Risk Assessment and contingency arrangements
o Waste Management plans
o Dosimetry
o Instrument selection and use
o Safety case support
o Safety Leadership
o Other areas of RP and Waste Managements as requested
• Lead and support other team members, sharing knowledge and experience.
• Use knowledge and experience to influence and improve project delivery.
• To assist successful delivery of projects, work to meet targets, work within budget and programme.
• Be customer focused, client liaison and communication.
• Work with projects and clients to help solve complex and challenging problems
• Liaise with Project Managers to deliver projects.
• Based in the Cumbria (Whitehaven) office.

Requirements

• Extensive Nuclear Decommissioning Experience.
• Certified RPA or close to Certification.
• A good understanding of Rad Waste Requirements.
• Good standard of written English and the ability to write clear technical reports.
• Reasonable level of commercial awareness and demonstrate the ability to work within budget and programme.
• Innovative and open to ideas.
• Flexible in approach, willing to travel to work on client sites.
• Highly motivated and proactive, have good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively.
• Interpersonal skills, able to build and develop relationships internally and externally.

Additional Information
• Travel to other company sites may be necessary.There will also be opportunities for international travel and applicants with a desire for non-UK based assignments will be welcomed.
• Successful candidates will be required to undergo a security vetting process and offers of employment will be subject to relevant security clearance being granted.
