SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our New York office as a Senior Water Resources/Drainage Engineer.


MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

This is a great opportunity to lead a water resources/drainage team on major Design Build transportation infrastructure pursuits and projects. This person will lead a team of engineering and design staff, in completion of hydrologic and hydraulic analysis efforts, engineering calculations, field observations, quality control reviews closed conduit and open channel design, and development of construction plans and specifications. This individual must be competent in performing water resources engineering work and demonstrate a broad knowledge of hydrologic/ hydraulic analysis and design methods. The ideal candidate is familiar with New York permitting requirements and standards relating to delivery of a transportation infrastructure project.



JOB DUTIES

  • Leads, plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates all phases of the water resource/drainage engineering work as a part of a major transportation project. Is able to define resourcing needs, including subconsultants, based upon project schedules.
  • Performs preliminary, intermediate, and final engineering design and/or reviews the design and drafting work of engineers, designers or drafters, as well as performs inter-disciplinary reviews.
  • Reviews cost and staff-hour estimates, job budgets and schedules and provides the same for change orders. Manages work efforts to align with project budgets.
  • Ensures the water resources/drainage team is compliant with rigorous quality control process.
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of final plans and reports and submits them for approval, as well as signs and seals the same as Responsible Engineer.
  • Ensures that requisite quality control reviews occur at requisite milestones and/or phases of project work. Follows prescribed company quality control procedures.
  • Coordinates work with other engineers and professionals within and outside own discipline, and with support services staff, including subconsultants to achieve project success.
  • May perform other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

 



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 15 years (20 preferred) in water resource/drainage design and/or design build experience on transportation projects. In addition, the following is required:
  • Proven leadership of water resources/drainage engineering team (10+ individuals) delivering a major transportation design build project. Leadership on two projects preferred.
  • Experience in securing water resource permits in New York, including: NYCDEP and NYSDEC. 


SPECIAL SKILLS
  • Strong technical writing and communications skills. May be eligible to receive project management training.
  • Experience and familiarity with FHWA and NYSDOT/NYCDOT hydraulic design standards and the following programs is required: HY-8, Geopak, Inroads/Open Roads Storm & Sanitary, EPA-SWMM, AutoCAD (Civil 3D). 
  • Some experience with the following programs is preferred: ArcGIS, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, Blue Beam.
  • Familiarity with FAA and port authority agencies a plus. 


PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS
  • P.E. license in New York State is required, or ability to achieve NY PE within 3 months of hire. Current NCEES record and multiple state PEs suffice as evidence of latter.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • Ability to process paper/electronic documents and utilize computer equipment; ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; ability to visit project sites. Job also requires ability to assemble and analyze data. 
  • Candidate will work out of an office in the New York City metropolitan area.
  • Due to current law, and in conjunction with the advertised position’s scope of work, candidates that are Non-US citizens are required to be submitted for further approval to the NNSA before being considered for hiring purposes. In addition, any candidates with dual citizenship in the US and another country must undergo further review for approval by the NNSA. Proof of citizenship will be requested upon receipt of application/resume.
