Working within Atkins’ Infrastructure business you will work within our Utility Solutions Practice based in Bristol. The Application Developer will be part of the Technology & Systems team and will have several key responsibilities

o Implementing internal and client facing software applications.
o Supporting the lead developer in the execution of delivering high quality software.
o Maintaining business critical applications as a shared responsibility within the development team.
o Providing technical support to the Technology & Systems Manager, as and when required.
o Applying creative thinking, development and design skills to build progressive and scalable software solutions.

The ideal candidate will have strong .NET and Microsoft development skills with practical knowledge of Azure and Windows 10 app development, in addition to a willingness to embrace new technologies and work in an agile and dynamic environment.

Qualifications
o Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or similar (min 2:1)

Essential Criteria
o Must have proven (5+ years) experience implementing software applications
o Solid and demonstrable development experience with .NET, C#, WCF, Entity Framework and REST.
o Competency with web development including HTML5, Bootstrap, jQuery, typescript and CSS,
o Experience working with MVC and MVVM design patterns.
o An appreciation of the full software development lifecycle and exposure to agile methodologies, particulary SCRUM and KANBAN.
o Experience of working on enterprise applications with distributed architectures.
o Demonstrable experience of SQL Server developer skills and development with enterprise database platforms.
o Ability to formulate solutions and communicate effectively.

Desirable Criteria
o Experience developing UWP applications
o Knowledge and experience of workflow technologies.
o Enthusiasm for emerging technologies and willingness to embrace new skills.
o Experience in cross platform mobile app development frameworks, particulary Xamarin.
o Interest in Geospatial technology and platforms.
o UX/UI design skills and demonstrable knowledge of wireframing platforms.
o Working knowledge of Analytics and Business Intelligence.
o Full clean driving licence.

Responsibilities
o Support development of a new business critical application.
o Proficient in the delivery of allocated project tasks, to quality, time and budget requirements.
o Support the lead developer on delivery of software projects.
o Engage with Scrum Master and Product Owners in support of agile activities.
o Provide technical assistance and support to less experienced developers.
o Contribute to software design activities and the formulation of technical solutions.
o Perform peer-to-peer code reviews and undertake testing, as directed.
o Support build and release activities, through continuous integration practices.
o Coordinate with other technical design and development teams to aid effective collaboration.
o Provide ad-hoc software support to the operational teams, when required.

Continuing professional development (CPD) is supported and encouraged, and Atkins actively supports staff in achieving corporate membership of relevant institutions

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
