Atkins is a leader in transport asset management with a reputation founded in highway asset management matched with a successful and rapidly growing rail practice. We have ambitious growth plans in this area including moving beyond consultancy-based services and towards products and managed services as part of our end-to-end philosophy. We are backing this with investment to rapidly grow our staff capability and capacity and to develop new products and services. We are supported also by colleagues in other infrastructure sectors in the UK and by SNC-Lavalin globally, to leverage strategic partnerships with asset management system providers.

Our Digital Asset Management Practice forms part of the 900-person strong UK Consultancy Practice within the Atkins Transportation Division and is responsible for working with our strategic markets to win and subsequently deliver Digital Enterprise Asset Management projects across the Highways and Rail sectors in the UK and Europe. Our clients include Highways England, Local Authorities, Network Rail, HS2, TfL, Train Operators and ROSCOEs, together with industry bodies such as the Rail Delivery Group and RSSB. We offer a range of advisory, delivery and managed services which are tailored to these sectors, building on the expertise which other parts of the SNC Lavalin Atkins business offers.

The Solution Architect – Cloud platforms role will act as a technical leader within our bid and live project teams to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the solutions we implement. The role will include both hands on project delivery and management of project teams; so demonstrable experience of effective delivery in fast paced, transformational asset management programmes is essential.

Qualifications

Relevant Degree
Microsoft or AWS certification
Supporting industry qualifications, e.g.TOGAF

Essential Criteria

Experience of establishing platform requirements to meet client needs and advising on cloud strategy and architecture
Demonstrable experience of designing cloud-based solutions to support analytics, machine learning/AI and big data platforms
Understanding of relevant ITIL processes to support transition of the solutions into production (Service Strategy, Service Design, Service Management)

Desirable Criteria

Experience of using cloud-based analytics in heavy infrastructure domains to support Asset Management (e.g. Highways, Rail Utilities, Oil & Gas, Highways)
Understanding of Enterprise Asset Management technology solutions (preferably one of Ellipse, Maximo, SAP or Oracle)
Understanding of the requirements of IoT platform capabilities

You will have significant demonstrable experience of working with senior client technical teams to understand requirements and shape the “to be” cloud platforms environment to a minimum of a high level design. This means you will have excellent communications skills with the ability to take complex technical environments and align them to business need. The ability to develop solid working relationships with clients from a varied background and gain confidence and buy-in to proposed solutions is a must. You will have the ability to innovate strategically with a passion for keeping abreast of developments and their application to business of cloud services, artificial intelligence and machine learning and also shape delivery within tightly constrained technical and business environments.
