SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Aviation Group in either our Nashville, TN, Denver, CO or Houston, TX office as a Sr Airport Planner.


MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

The Senior Airport Planner is responsible for performing advanced planning duties in research, development, and implementation of aviation programs, projects and studies. Role will include supervision, training, and direction to subordinate staff as well as direct client coordination and project management.


JOB DUTIES

  • Directs the technical production of planning assignments and staff
  • Coordinates with project manager, designers and other disciplines to complete project work
  • Conducts field surveys, investigations, and collects data in support of airport planning studies
  • May work on airport master plans, airport layout plans, feasibility studies, geometry studies, land use planning studies, airspace analysis, and public involvement and outreach activities
  • Provide advice, technical assistance, and written recommendations on airport planning studies
  • Respond to requests for data and information from internal staff and external clients, organizations, various agencies, and the public
  • Prepare scopes of work, fee proposals, and coordinate subconsultants
  • Review technical work performed by other project team members
  • Guide concept development plans for airfield, terminal, commercial properties or ground transportation facilities
  • Prepare presentations for dissemination of technical information to clients, stakeholders and the public


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning (civil engineering, airport planning, urban planning) or related field. Master's or graduate level technical coursework preferred. This level may be achieved by Planners with seven years experience since Bachelor's or six years since Master's. Typical incumbent has 8-10 years' experience. 

SPECIAL SKILLS
  • 7+ years relevant experience in Airport Planning 
  • Extensive knowledge of FAA guidance, especially Advisory Circulars and Orders related to planning as well as TRB ACRP resources
  • Experience with developing Airport Master Plans and the Master Plan process
  • AutoCAD experience
  • Experience managing the preparation of Airport Master Plans and Airport Layout Plans
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) 
  • Extensive knowledge of analytical techniques and related tools including statistical, spreadsheet, database, simulation, and spatial/graphical analysis applications (AutoCAD, REVIT, GIS, AviPlan, etc.)
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work collaborative in a fast-paced team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tasks and lead technical staff
  • Adaptable and flexible to changing priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to travel

PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS
  • AICP Certification desired

OTHER
  • Experience in forecasting aviation demand, to include commercial service and enplanements preferred
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of best practices, methods, and principles utilized in strategic planning, infrastructure and facilities planning, and operational research for airports preferred
  • Ability to apply advanced professional knowledge of the principles of management, business, marketing and administration in directing, supervising, and coordinating complex airport planning projects preferred
  • FAA pilot certificate or flight experience preferred
