Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Calverton, Maryland office as a Senior FEMA GIS Analyst.

Major Function/Role:
Atkins seeks an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our FEMA flood hazard mapping group in Calverton, MD or Alexandria, VA as a Sr. GIS Analyst. In this role you will apply your knowledge of geospatial and mapping processes and technologies to floodplain mapping, emergency management and disaster related services. Our ideal candidate will have education and experience with geospatial analysis and mapping processes and GIS software and technologies.

Job Duties:
Perform work which involves conventional GIS tasks requiring the use of analysis, interpretation, and deductive reasoning to carry out diversified projects or phases of a single project; Produce GIS databases and maps to represent hydrologic and hydraulic data into FEMA’s Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs); Produce maps and
related materials for various meetings; Ability to research key information from client and corporate databases and prepare consistent production files for flood mapping projects; Utilize a variety of computer software, especially GIS, to reconcile information from various sources and produce FEMA Risk MAP draft and final products; Perform spatial analysis for flood hazard risk assessments. Provide senior leadership to junior staff and upper management.


Education and Experience:
B.A. or B.S. or M.S. in Geography, computer science, or GIS-related environmental discipline commensurate with hiring discipline. This level may be achieved by GIS practitioners with 4 years of experience since Bachelor's degree or 2 years since Master's. Typical incumbent has 6 -7 years experience.

Special Skills:
Excellent technical writing and communication skills. Eligible for project management training.

Professional Registrations:
Registration as a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) is required; GISP preferred

Additional Requirements:
Deep experience with the National Flood Insurance Program, FEMA FIRM production and FEMA non-regulatory products is required.
