Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Denver Transportation Planning Group as a Sr. Project Manager.

MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE:

 

This position supports Atkins statewide, regional, and corridor transportation planning activities, with a focus on Colorado.  Diverse assignments may include active transportation planning, using big data in the decision-making process, intelligent mobility, corridor planning, and supporting a diverse range of clients. 

 

This position will fill the following roles:  lead technical professional, project manager or task manager, and contribute expertise in advanced concepts and techniques to solve unconventional problems.  The individual will manage internal project staff and subconsultants, coordinate with clients, and facilitate engagement with public and agency stakeholders.  The individual also will participate in proposals and business development and function as a mentor to technical staff.  

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

Manage projects and perform technical work that involves conventional transportation planning and/or traffic engineering practices, and a variety of complex issues such as issues such as transportation safety, multimodal planning, and innovative technologies.   Primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Manage large transportation planning studies including multimodal corridor planning studies, Planning and Environmental Linkages Studies, and Transportation Master Plans.
  • Manage projects that include traffic simulation and capacity analysis as a primary task
  • Coordinate and participate in contract negotiations with clients and subconsultants
  • Conduct quality control reviews
  • As a project manager, monitor scopes, schedules, and budgets, and review and approve invoicing.
  • Participate in business development and marketing activities, including proposal writing
  • Maintain frequent contact with clients and regulatory agency personnel to determine their respective needs and requirements
  • Supervise other project managers, technical professionals and other design staff
  • Mentor junior staff through projects and career development

 

Desired qualifications:

 

  • Positive attitude and ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Transportation planning and/or traffic engineering background required
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor scopes, schedules, and budgets, manage subconsultants, and review and approve invoicing interest as a project manager
  • Understanding of transit, bicycle, and pedestrian planning and design principals
  • Proven ability to develop high quality work products
  • Solid business development skills; demonstrated ability to relate well to clients, demonstrated presentation skills, and ability to write proposals
  • Experience with traffic simulation and travel demand forecasting software programs including TransModeler, VISSIM, TRANSCAD, Sidra, Synchro, etc. a plus


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:


Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Planning required. Minimum of ten years of experience in project production and technical professional activities, at least five years working as a project manager. Private sector experience is desired.


PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS:


AICP or PE required.
