  1. Clean power, Oil & gas

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

Do you have offshore structural design experience in either Oil & Gas or Renewables? Are you looking for your next career opportunity? This could be the role for you!

The Team

Atkins offshore structural engineering capability dates back to the 1970’s and we have been at the forefront of the discipline ever since. Much of our capability originated in the oil and gas sector, and we are still heavily involved in this area. However, we have successfully transferred many of our skills onto a growing number of fixed and floating offshore renewables projects.

Our offices in Epsom, situated in Surrey, are ideally located within close reach of both central London and the Surrey countryside, and are home to around 70 of our offshore renewable and oil & gas professionals. You will become part of a growing team of over 2000 engineers working in the global energy sector.

The Role

We are looking for mid-grade structural engineers who have an understanding and experience of structural design and analysis for all types of offshore structures; both fixed platforms and floating designs.

As a member of the team you will have a key role in the technical delivery of work packages under supervision from senior staff.

You will be comfortable working on a range of structural engineering design and analysis projects, either with local colleagues or working as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team located across different offices. You will deliver high quality technical work, ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards as well as internal best practice procedures and contribute to continual development of the design approach and methodology.

The Person

Comfortable at performing a range of design and analysis tasks, you take personal responsibility in achieving the best from yourself and colleagues to ensure client satisfaction. You are comfortable and adaptable to working in new and changing environments. You have good attention to detail and are able to make judgements under pressure.

You are driven and motivated to excel in a varied and rewarding career, looking to make the most of the opportunities that Atkins offers.

With excellent communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills, you will be able to build relationships effectively and assist in winning work from new and existing clients.

You will demonstrate the following;
  • Engineering degree, honours or equivalent in civil, mechanical, structural, naval architecture or similar;
  • An appropriate level of post-graduate structural engineering experience (some of which will be offshore structural engineering in Oil & Gas and / or Renewables) and be working towards, or have recently achieved, Chartership status with a recognised engineering institution;
  • Structural engineering experience including one or more of the following:
    • Jacket structural design and analysis,
    • Topside structural design and analysis,
    • Structural Modification & Repair (SMR) – concept and detail design,
    • Advanced finite element analysis (both linear and non-linear);
  • Experience in the use of computer-based engineering tools and software – preferably including one or more of SACS, SESAM, USFOS and ABAQUS;
  • Knowledge of typical offshore structures design codes (e.g. ISO, DNV, NORSOK, API);
