Structural Engineer Lead, Esbjerg.

The Role

Within our Engineering and Consulting (E&C) UK & Europe business, the Esbjerg operation is an important part of the link into the Danish offshore sector and clients, and an important part of growth and diversification plans within mainland Europe.  The team is currently a multi-discipline team supporting mainly Oil & Gas clients in engineering consultancy and modifications & upgrades, but with intent to grow into other Energy sectors, especially Offshore Wind.  The Esbjerg operation also acts as a conduit for specialist work that is carried out by other parts of the Energy business, and draws in resources from this wider business to execute work locally.
As we make progress with our Energy mission to make a difference by improving lives through safer, cleaner, smarter energy we are seeking a Structural Engineer Lead to bring enthusiasm and experience to help grow and develop our capabilities in this area locally. 
Within this role, you will have a focus on winning work, engaging with existing oil and gas clients and bringing in possible new clients, particularly in the sector of Offshore Wind.  The E&C business in the UK (and across the globe) comprises vast experience in structural engineering where we have been involved with the design, assessment and modification of over 1000 oil and gas installations around the world and are the operator’s ‘go to’ company for difficult challenges from life extension to innovative new design. As part of this role you will have the ability to lean on these resources whilst developing the business locally and growing a team around you.  
We are looking for a Structural Engineering Lead who also has a good understanding of advanced analysis techniques and the application of design codes to provide practical solutions to our clients’ challenges. In this role, you will support technical delivery of work packages and present project work to clients through reports and presentations.

You’ll have a strong understanding of structural engineering analysis using finite element techniques for assessment and design for all types of offshore structures including fixed and floating and will be able to lead a team of engineers to successful delivery of a project in this area. You will ensure delivery of high quality structural finite element analysis, ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards, as well as internal best practice procedures and contribute to analytical methods for specific structural engineering analysis.

Other key responsibilities include the following:

• Develop the structural engineering client portfolio for the Atkins Esbjerg office
• Project definition and the preparation of fee proposals 
• Liaison with clients to ensure technical deliverables are delivered on time to the client requirements 
• Successfully manage and deliver a number of projects including projects carried out from the UK or further afield
• Supporting management of workload and resources of the team / projects
• Manage and develop engineers to execute and deliver projects



The Person

You will have a strong technical background coupled with excellent verbal and written communication skills, stakeholder management and influencing skills. Comfortable at performing a range of analytical tasks, you take personal responsibility in achieving the best from yourself and colleagues to ensure client satisfaction. You are comfortable and adaptable to working in new and changing environments. You have good attention to detail and are able to make judgements under pressure. You will be passionate about building and then improving the technical level of the team and as a natural leader and a motivator, you enjoy getting the best out of a team.
The ideal candidate will have technical understanding across:
• Engineering degree, honours or equivalent in civil, mechanical, structural, naval architecture or similar
• Chartered Engineer (or near to obtaining chartership) with a recognised engineering institution or the relevant years of experience
• Design and assessment of offshore structures to relevant codes and standards (e.g. ISO, DNV, NORSOK, API)
• Structural analysis experience in some or all of the following:
• Linear and non-linear offshore structural analysis using SESAM and USFOS software
• Application of environmental and topsides loading
• Fatigue, Ultimate and Accidental Limit States
• Ship impact 

The following is also desirable:
• Good experience of the Offshore Oil and Gas industry
• A good track record in key client management 
• Experience in leading and developing teams
• Good standard of written English and the ability to write clear technical reports 
• Offshore experience / good practical knowledge
