Team Lead - Building Structures

Atkins Building Design business have an exciting opportunity for a Team Leader in our Building Structures Team in Epsom which currently comprises 50 experienced Structural Engineers and BIM Technicians.

As Team Leader you will be responsible for managing the performance of our Epsom Team, including the management of staff, provision of technical leadership and achievement of profit targets.

The role will report to the Building Structures Practice Manager for the South East region. The Team Leader is a strategically important post, offering a challenging and rewarding opportunity to apply knowledge, experience and problem-solving skills to play a major part in the development of the Atkins’ Building Design business.

Atkins’ Building Design business provides multidisciplinary engineering services and integrated solutions across a wide range of projects relating to buildings and infrastructure. Drawing upon a diverse skill set and a proven track record of delivery we are playing a leading role in some of the world’s most challenging and exciting engineering projects across sectors including Airports, Defence, Energy, Civil Infrastructure, Nuclear, Education and Rail.



Requirements 
Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer
 

Strong and robust personality with experience of team leadership. 
Skilled at collaborative working, have good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively. Proven capability technically delivering structural engineering projects. 
Customer focused and a high level of relationship management skills. A good track record in stakeholder management and dealing with clients to develop relationships and work.
Driven to meet targets, and have a high level of commercial awareness and will have demonstrated the ability to work within budget and programme. 
Candidates should have a very strong technical background, including first principles analysis and knowledge and use of relevant UK and international codes and standards.
Excellent interpersonal skills, able to build and develop relationships internally and externally.

Responsibilities
Lead the team and drive its reputation for technical excellence. Ability to build and motivate a team and demonstrate good leadership qualities. 
Provide a combination of technical reputation and communication skills to interface with clients and internal stakeholders and ensure the team is recognised for its technical excellence and quality of delivery.
Management and technical development of our structural engineering capability including mentoring/supporting our structural engineers and technicians. Actively support recruitment, career development, and talent management.
Technical responsibility for structural engineering design delivery on a range of projects, delivering to time, budget and the required level of quality.
Management of workload and resources for the team. Work with the other Team Leaders and Practice Managers across the national practice, sharing information/resources and collaborating on business development.
Delivering margin/profit. Co-ordination and management of other discipline inputs into projects. 

Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and ensure that a good Health & Safety culture is engendered within the office. 
Maintain compliance with the Business Management System. 
Lead and support business development, work winning and bidding functions (bid manager/ bid director), with a focus on the SE of England. Establish, maintain and develop relationships with key existing and prospective clients.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
