Technical Director - Contaminated Land and Hydrogeology (CLAH)

Do you have the drive, skills and experience to work with us as Technical Director (or Associate Technical Director, depending on experience) shaping the future of Atkins’ Contaminated Land and Hydrogeology (CLAH) team across the UK? Reporting to the nationwide CLAH Practice Director, supported by significant technically-focussed investment, you will be responsible for developing best-in-class, innovative land contamination advice, using the latest digital platforms to deliver some of the most exciting and iconic infrastructure projects. Your work will involve local, national and international projects being delivered by Atkins including the development of Cities, Transportation and Energy Infrastructure.

The CLAH Practice within Atkins is a well-established, multi-disciplinary, environmental and engineering practice with an extensive portfolio of regeneration and infrastructure development projects. Our technical expertise and highly skilled team has been recognised year after year at the Brownfield Briefing Awards, winning awards for Best Project Closure/Verification Process, Best Public Participation, Best Urban Regeneration Project and Best Young Brownfield Professional. From this class-leading technical foundation, you will help us face challenges and take advantage of the digital revolution and embed innovation in delivery to clients.

In common with our team, you will have considerable brownfield land regeneration experience working with developer clients, and experience across a portfolio of projects working with private and public sector clients in the investigation, assessment, remediation and redevelopment of brownfield land, and the contaminant and engineering hydrogeology of major infrastructure. 

We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced and adaptable individual with a recognised national profile, perhaps published, certainly with involvement in UK-wide technical initiatives and bodies, excellent interpersonal and client management skills; the ability to complete technical authorisation; a proven track record of successful regulatory engagement; and capable of winning and delivering the high standard of geo-environmental consultancy services for which Atkins is renowned.

The Practices are the ‘technical powerhouse’ that forms the foundation of our organisation. As a Technical Director or Associate Director (depending on experience) you will work collaboratively to achieve targets, exceed client expectation and drive innovation to grow the Practice.


Responsibilities
• You will raise the profile of Atkins, develop innovation in land contamination technical approaches, including in digital data collection, manipulation and the opportunity for digital-related services. 
• Launch award-winning propositions, linking technical development to more efficient, faster, dynamic delivery models to compete effectively in the market.
• Lead technical networks recognised for technical excellence in Contaminated Land and Hydrogeology; work collaboratively with our CLAH technical staff across the UK regions as a national discipline stream.
• Support the Practice Director with workforce planning including skills development and recruitment. 
• Linked with Atkins extensive Market teams, be responsible for winning work including maximising additional/repeat/follow-on work from clients, nationwide. 
• Act as a Project Manager or Project Director and undertake technical delivery and report authorisation.

Requirements
• National technical reputation for developing and delivering contaminated land and hydrogeological services, a drive for innovation and continuous improvement. 
• Have won industry awards and been externally published, supported by chartered status and preferably SiLC.
• A supportive and encouraging approach to mentoring less experienced members of the team, combined with a passion for staff technical development. 
• Strong collaborative and networked behaviours to interface with Practice Director, Practice Managers, Market teams, and other stakeholders. 
• Strong communication skills to interface with clients and internal stakeholders. 

Salary Range: Negotiable, but potentially £60,000 - £70,000 p.a. depending on experience (plus car allowance & benefits)

Location: Preferred Atkins’ office locations - London, Birmingham or Bristol

Training
Atkins develops individuals through a portfolio of training and development activities designed to help you make the best of your abilities and talents. These are reviewed with individuals through an annual appraisal process. We actively support staff in achieving corporate membership of relevant institutions.
