The Company

The creation of a new transportation division in Atkins brings together the capabilities of our Highway and Rail teams into a single business of 3,000 talented engineers and professionals. The UK transport sector is experiencing unprecedented levels of investment and Atkins is playing lead roles in a diverse range of projects such as high speed rail, intelligent transport systems and the Venturer driverless car project. Our consultants are working with government, local authorities and private sector partners to develop integrated transport strategies to ensure the urban areas we live in continue to work. The Role

This role presents a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team, to play a leading role in building and executing our plan for the future. Leading on technical growth, sales and proposition development in our Intelligent Mobility strategy and growth plan, and project delivery. It will necessitate ambition, creativity, technical knowledge, management experience and commercial acumen to create and manage new revenue streams for the business. The role will work collaboratively with business development, market and practice teams and project delivery teams, and will report to the Practice Director.



Responsibilities

Key areas of responsibility will include:
• building a leading presence in the Intelligent Mobility ecosystem, establishing strong senior relationships in new and existing markets
• positioning Atkins as No1 in the Intelligent Mobility sector
• developing value propositions with colleagues and proactively influence the market
• working with the marketing team to ensure that Atkins insight, thought leadership and marketing campaigns are properly targeted to build our Intelligent Mobility profile and deliver return on investment
• working with Market Directors to position propositions effectively with new clients
• planning strategic advantage through partnering and collaboration, supporting the pursuit process of major Intelligent Mobility opportunities with key partners
• supporting Practice Directors with strategic resource planning activities to ensure we have the capacity and capability to capitalise on future demand
• supporting project delivery teams once IM work has been secured, providing technical knowledge and experience to manage major risks and issues as necessary
• developing and executing further growth and exploitation strategies
• coaching staff on technical development and support technical career paths

Required Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP
• involvement in research and/or a recognised expert in their field
• examples of thought leadership and leading on technical and white papers.
• examples of technical report production.
• evidence working with industry related SME's and Academia.
• demonstrable experience and delivery in: human factors and behavior change in industrial/commercial settings, including transport;
• experience of: systems thinking and translating new / disruptive technologies into value propositions
• acts as technical coach and mentor to junior team

STRATEGIC NETWORKING:
• experience of building effective networks, both internally and externally
• excellence in client relationship management, with an ability to access and influence at senior level with ease
• experience of developing strategic relationships with clients and exploring ways to add significant value to the client’s agenda
• understanding of IM's non-traditional client base
• existing profile in an area of the IM related skill sets with an active technical network

NEW BUSINESS PROPOSITIONS:
• experience of devising and executing strategy and growth plans
• strategic thinking and an ability to identify and exploit competitive advantage
• an ability to analyse markets, understand client needs and convert opportunities into compelling value propositions
• experience in developing value propositions and product roadmaps

• evidence of promoting innovative processes and products
• has lead on technical report production and thought leadership

WINNING WORK / SALES:
• sales, client and consultancy market-facing background, preferably within private and public sector
• significant contributions to sales strategy, building business in new areas
• experience authoring compelling bids and pitching to clients with a high success rate
• a track record of technical leadership in winning major revenue opportunities
• an ability to negotiate profitable contracts and being commercially astute
• experience of successfully operating within a target-driven environment, with a consistent track record of achieving or exceeding targets
• Policy and advisory knowledge in your field

PROJECT DELIVERY:
• experience delivering technology-enabled change projects
• evidence of trusted, long-term relationships with clients
• transport sector experience delivering projects for clients such as Highways England, Transport for London, Department for Transport, Transport Systems Catapult and local authorities
• Transport sector experience delivering projects for clients and industry influencers: regulators, transport and freight operators, and mobility service providers
