Technical Director – Process and Facilities

General

This is a senior leadership role in the UK and Europe business organisation, but with a wider global remit to support the development of our Process and Facilities Consulting and Design discipline within the Atkins’-SNC Lavalin Engineering and Consulting business.  It involves the following fundamental responsibilities, namely:

1. Leading the growth of a world-class Process and Facilities Design and Consulting technical capability, with a principal focus on offshore;
2. Developing strong key client relationships in support of our key market sectors
3. Act as an overall Professional Head of the Process and Facilities Discipline, and provide influence and the drive toward technical best practices across our global oil and gas business.

The Technical Director for Process and Facilities would be expected to work across operations and markets to provide the discipline leadership and focus needed to both develop and improve all aspects of our technical, win-work and deliver work capability.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategy: In consultation with Market Directors, the Strategy and Business Development team, and our Technical Leadership community the Technical Director will provide the technical “moving mind” behind the growth of our capability in Process and Facilities Engineering. This includes support to business planning, investments in technical development, and the training and development of staff.

Projects: The Technical Director is responsible for the setting of Technical Standards, working methods and quality of delivery of all work in Process and Facilities Design and Consulting. The role includes participation as the company leading Technical Authority in all matters of technical governance, technical risk management and formal review of Process and Facilities Projects.

Win-Work: The role provides support to Market Directors in client interfaces and developing major bids, with key areas of focus being:
1. Developing the technical elements of strategically important proposals and bids, bringing experience and innovation to improve competitiveness, reduce cost and increase returns.
2. Interfacing with client technical personnel to develop trust and support the development of our work pipeline

Key Account Management: The Technical Director for Process and Facilities would be expected to develop working relationships and a position of influence with Technical Authorities and SME’s in our key client organisations. This would include management of technical risks and reputation within those organisations, understanding client culture, needs and priorities, and being able to communicate that back to all levels within Atkins SNC-Lavalin.

External Influence: The successful candidate would be expected to have a strong external reputation within the Oil and Gas industry, to have been involved in the wider technical community through technical committees, conferences, standards institutions and professional governing bodies. The Technical Director would be expected to represent Atkins SNC-Lavalin at the highest professional levels in the industry and use his/her influence to drive thought leadership in the field.

To be Successful

Our Technical Director for Process and Facilities will have a clear understanding across our Design and Consulting activities, how we deliver our diverse range of services, what our clients really need from us, the technical trends and innovations within the discipline, and how we win and deliver work in a competitive environment.

The TD will have the people management skills in Adaptive Leadership to achieve the aims of the business with an emphasis on growth and strong engagement from all internal stakeholders globally. However, this is equally an outward, client and externally focused role, where personal influence and reputation for technical excellence can be translated into benefits across the Atkins SNC-Lavalin business in winning work and developing strong and trusted client relationships.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
If applying to this role please do not make reference to (in conversation) or include in your application or CV, details of any current or previously held security clearance.
