The Technical Investigation Centre within AtkinsRéalis consists of a team of Lead Technical and Technical investigation engineers.  In addition to delivering the national Technical Investigation of Infrastructure Equipment framework contract, the section provides a wide variety of specialist technical support to a range of customers. AtkinsRéalis is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, flexible and skilled Technical Investigation Engineer into the team which is based in Crewe, Cheshire.

Role:
This role is that of a Technical Investigation Engineer within the Technical Investigation Centre at Crewe. Duties will include carrying out technical investigations in order to determine why equipment or system failures have occurred.  Guidance, where necessary, will be provided by a Lead.

Primary functions of the role include :

Technical Investigation:

  • Review of existing failure information.
  • Research of equipment specification, typical operation and characteristics.
  • Derivation of suitable tests.
  • Execution of tests (in workshop/laboratory or on site).
  • Commissioning, liaison and management of other specialist services if required, e.g. joint investigations with manufacturers/suppliers, use of specialists including optical consultants, metallurgists etc.
  • Analysis of results in context of operational environment and further test iterations if required.
  • Formation of draft conclusions and recommendations in light of the investigation findings.
  • Formal qualifications in Engineering / Forensic Engineering or related subjects, preferably degree level.
  • Any similar qualifications or experience which demonstrate ability in technical investigation.
  • Some UK Signal Engineering (or other railway discipline) experience or knowledge.
  • IRSE Technical Investigator license (must at least be prepared/capable to work towards and obtain a license).
  • UK driver’s license.
