Your role within the team

This manager provides technical management for civil/structural design activities for Nuclear Power Plants within a matrix organization

As a member of our PROCESS AND CIVIL ENGINEERING team, you will:

  • Provide technical management of individuals and teams executing commercial and internal work packages and projects in civil/structural engineering.  This includes:

    • Approving technical documents prepared by the civil team they supervise.

    • Removing barriers that would impact deliverables to meet project requirements and priorities, working with the assigned staff to find solutions and optimizations.

    • Providing technical advice to staff and as appropriate subject matter expertise to staff and management.

    • Participating in the preparation of commercial proposals and approving the technical content of proposals prepared under their direction.

    • Ensures that work is conducted in accordance with applicable Engineering and Quality Assurance procedures, as well as statutory requirements and best practices in safety and quality.

    • Fosters a positive team environment and team building within Engineering and with internal and external customers

    • Planning and executing work consistent with quality, cost, and schedule requirements

    • Forecasting resource demands for the assigned work scope, including skills, capabilities, and durations.

    • Collaborating with clients and successfully delivering engineering deliverables in accordance with the signed contract, customer specification and requirements.

    • Interfacing with engineering director and other engineering disciplines to address interfaces between disciplines.

    • Working with marketing and other corporate groups to maintain and improve client relationships and offerings.

The ideal candidate

  • Engineering degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field from an accredited University

  • Registered Professional Engineer in a Province of Canada, qualified to seal civil engineering documents.

  • 10 years of structural analysis and design experience in steel and concrete structures.

  • 5 years nuclear and/or CANDU technology experience

  • 3 or more years of experience leading engineering teams

  • Experience managing multidisciplinary work with significant interfacing requirements with non-civil engineering disciplines such as Licensing, Safety Analysis, Mechanical, Electrical/I&C, and Process Control.

  • Experience managing and/or performing work under nuclear Codes and Standards such as CSA N287, CSA-N289, and CSA N291.

  • Experience analyzing structural systems and elements as required using ANSYS, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, SSASI and/or other structural programs

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Willing to travel to and potentially work at Project sites to meet corporate needs (Note: the initial site location is at the Mississauga head office in Ontario

  • Good knowledge of evaluation of structures including inspection and testing is an asset.

  • Experience working in a nuclear facility licensed in Canada is an asset.

  • Security Clearance with Public Services and Procurement Canada is a condition of employment
